Reaction by tallied escorts

Can a squadron with a tally on an escort follow that squadron
when it reacts?
I think I know the answer to this already, but we did have a
weird looking situation come up. Say an interceptor has a tally
on an escort. The escort squadron moves first, and the
interceptor follows, closing the distance but not entering the
escort's square. Then another interceptor moves into some
bombers' square, and the escorting squadron reacts (Late or
Successful). At this point the squadron with the tally on the
escorts has already moved, but it's in a position where it could
enter the escort's reaction destination. Can those interceptors
move into the escort's square and attack.
Doesn't seem to be any provision for that in the rules, so I
figure it's not allowed. But now it seems strange that this
question hasn't come up for me before now.

You could always move your fighter to the square the escort
would react to.

Odds of guessing right are equal to the odds of a successful or
late reaction.
This situation came up in a game Dave and I are playing. What’s
really weird is that the escorts will be reacting past their
tailing squadron.
Maybe I should have waited till the trailers could have entered
the escorts square before the escorts were enabled to react.
