       v2.0
Players: Elias Nordling (Japanese), David Demko (Allied)
This PBEM-game saw an initial jump on the Japanese by the P40s,
and just like in my solo game it ended with a VP margin for the
Japanese that put the burden of attack on the US. Some
maneuvering followed as the Japanese tried to gang up on single
targets and the US tried to pick out targets of opportunity to
make up for it. Other than the initial clash, the deciding
factor was that the Japanese managed to keep the fight out of
visual range from the Corsairs, that sailed through the battle
witout noticing anything. It felt like the Japanese needed and
got a bit of luck to get this result.
       Score:
       US: Exiting 2, 4 fighters: 6
       Japanese: 5 fighters
       TOTAL: 1
       Japanese win
       Felt like: Japanese win

While waiting for Al and Scott's plays, here are the current
       totals:
       Allied Exit VP = 2 + 0 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 2 = mean 1.2 VPs
       Japanese losses = 9 + 16 + 13 + 11 + 7 + 4 = mean 10.0 VPs
       Allied losses = 5 + 6 + 5 + 7 + 6 + 5 = mean 5.7 VPs
This gives us an overall mean of +5.5 VPs, pushing our draw
window back down. Current outputs are:
       ScottK 1 = +6
       Dave 1 = +10
       ScottK 2 = +10
       Dave 2 = +5
       Elias 1 = +2
       Elias 2 = +1
I'll wait for Al and Scott's plays and then call it a day on
       this one.

Dave and I just started a second PBEM game that we should be
able to finish before the jan31 deadline.

Piling On v2.0 (the version where +5 to +8 is a draw)
Started against Stuart Rubin but the game quickly mired in
dogfights so I finished it solo.
The Japanese benefited from early tallies while the US did not.
Thus the high Zero's (who were my elites) were able to get a
jump on both Hellcat Sqn's and the H5 Zero's got the jump on
both P-40 Sqn's. The trade was about even however. US Navy
planes are tough with their 4+ defense factor and their 2 FP.
Early dogfights locked up both Hellcat and P-40 Sqn's. The
dogfights extended into the next two turns with both sides
trading even due the US rolling quite a few natural 1's for
losses on the Zero's. The P-40's suffered the most with 6 shot
down in swirling dogfights. 1 Hellcat and 0 Corsairs were shot
down. The Zero's lost 9. The C3 Zero's failed their tally rolls
until the second to last turn, but by then, all US Sqn's were
unreachable before game end so they contributed nothing. They
tried moving their vector several times but GCI had a mouth full
of sushi and never responded. This playing ended up being a dice
fest with luck swinging back and forth. The Zero's faired well
against the P-40's but suffered under the Hellcats and Corsairs,
although an unlucky natural 2 cohesion DR broke a Hellcat Sqn
prematurely. I'd say luck favored the Japanese 60/40.
       Final Tally:
       Japanese: 7 kills (6 P-40, 1 F6F)
       US: 9 kills and 3 exit VP (1xF6F, 2xF4U) for 12
Net: +5 for a draw (felt like a draw but closer to a US victory
       side of a draw)
Next time I play this I'll climb the C3 or H5 Zero's to
intercept the Hellcats and Corsairs. One wing of Zero's against
       the P-40's is enough.

Played this one more time solo with the intent on breaking the
scenario. The high Zero's set their vector marker below the row
8 clouds and dove below on turn 1. This negated any successful
tally's by the Hellcats and Corsairs until turn 4. At that point
the game was already won by the Japanese as 8 Sqn's overwhelmed
the P-40's. Luck was below average for both sides as only 3
P-40's and 2 Zero's were shot down in the Hit and Run combats
that occurred on turns 2 and 3. I've never had so many +1 extra
Sqn mods. The Zero's didn't space out their attacks over more
turns because they didn't want to give the high US Sqn's the
chance to intervene. The Zero's weren't able to generate
dogfights and the P-40's rolled poor cohesion checks despite
being the attacker. On Turn 4 both P-40's and 3 Zero Sqn's were
broken, and the lead Veteran Hellcat managed a lucky tally
through the clouds at range 4. All Zero's simply dove out of
danger and exited the map on Turn 5.
       Final Result:
       US: 4 exit + 2 kills = 6
       Japan: 3 kills
Net: +3 Japanese victory (certainly felt like a Japanese
       victory)
Assuming both P-40 Sqn's can be broken, Japan just has to trade
even kills with the P-40s to win.
To defeat this tactic by the Japanese, assign the Vet and
Expertes to the P-40's. Once a tally is obtained, move in such a
way to give the higher US Sqn's a chance to enter the fight.

Thanks, Al. I'm just going to wait on Scott and Elias/Dave's
plays now. That should give us all the data we need.

       S02
       v 2.0
       Game 1
Japanese greens split between 204 and 253 Kokutai, vets split
       between these as well.
American vets and experten split between Corsairs, Hellcats and
P-40's. Should try piling them all into P-40's next time.
Japanese plan was to engage as many as squadrons as possible.
       LOSSES- 9 x Zero
       9 VP
       1 x Hellcat
       1 X Corsair
       2 VP
1 Corsair exited intact for 1 VP.
VICTORY- 10-2 for +8 for a draw, felt like maybe an American
victory with a 4-1 ratio in kills.
THOUGHTS- Japanese play was not optimal, next time I would have
204 and 253 monster the P-40's. I had three Japanese squadrons
return to base at the end of the game to net a draw as opposed
to engaging the Corsair and Hellcats at a height disadvantage.
This one requires some thought, seems balanced to me after 1
       play.

With three more plays (still waiting on Scott, here are the
       current totals:
       Allied Exit VP = 2 + 0 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 = mean 1.7
       VPs
       Japanese losses = 9 + 16 + 13 + 11 + 7 + 4 + 9 + 2 + 9 = mean
       8.8 VPs
       Allied losses = 5 + 6 + 5 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 7 + 3 + 2 = mean 5.1 VPs
So with nine plays under the belt we have an overall mean of
+5.4 VPs, which hasn't changed much. Current outputs are:
       ScottK 1 = +6
       Dave 1 = +10
       ScottK 2 = +10
       Dave 2 = +5
       Elias 1 = +2
       Elias 2 = +1
       Al 1 = +5
       Al 2 = +3
       Forrest 1 = +8
I'll wait for Scott's plays and then look at whether we need a
final adjustment. I'm close to callng this scenario done.
