S15 Home Islands
By: Elias Nordling Date: December 19, 2020, 2:53 pm

v1.1
Player: Elias Nordling (solo)
Beforehand, I was a little concerned that the US FB:s being able
to bomb the airfield turn 2 would be a problem, and that the
scenario in general would be a problem for the Japanese. instead
it turned into an US disaster. This was helped somewhat by poor
US rolling, but not exceptionally so. The Japanese aircraft are
good, and the US have bombers to defend. The Japanese maneuvered
well and managed both to get through to the bombers and get a
lot of favourable combats. The Helldivers were slaughtered and
aborted before even reaching the murderous flak of the port.
Score:
US: Bombing 5 (airfield), 10 Georges: 15
Japanese: 12 Helldivers, 2 Corsairs, 7 Hellcats: 21
SCORE: -6 MASSIVE JAPANESE WIN
COMMENT: First, this scenario obviously needs split limits, and
has the room for it: 4 N1K2, 4 Hellcats, 2 Corsairs. Second, I'm
very suspicious of the massive flak over the port, though it
never even fired in this game. Given that my score was off the
scale, I have a suspicion that there might be a balance problem
here and that this scenario might need some re-testing. If so, I
would take out the light flak from the port. I would consider
heavy damage on both the port and the airfield, suffering even
losses a US win, which would put the draw window at 17-20.
But if you feel like it's too late to start reworking this one,
other than balance I didn't find anything obviously wrong with
the scenario.

Andrew & I were planning to have a look at this too probably
next Wed. I've always worried it might be a bit of a problem
child scenario as I was always aware I was trying to cram a lot
in but I'm reassured Elias hasn't managed ,to break it:-))
Cheers
Gordon

I'm most worried that the Allies won't be able to do any damage
to the port.

I'm okay with reworking this one.
So I'm adding in split limits as directed and removed the Port's
light flak. I'll lso reduce the draw window. Please give this
another go. And Gordon and Andrew please pile in on this one.

v1.2
Player: Elias Nordling (solo)
The flow was similar to the last play, but with somewhat more
toned down results. The Helldivers still took a beating, but did
their job. On the left is a mostly separate fight, but it is
interesting in its own right so I wouldn't want to scratch it.
It's a 2 on 2 fight, but the bombing mission and the flak gives
the Japanese opportunities to create favourable result. In this
play, the result was exceptional, with 7 US fighter losses to no
Japanese losses. This doomed the US score, despite a decent show
on the other half of the map. The remaining George from the left
fight joined the fighting to the right late in the battle but
failed to generate a positive kill ratio.
SCORE:
US bombing 5 (3 hits on airfield) + 12 (10 on port) + 11 ftrs:
28
Japanese: 6 Helldivers, 9 Hellcats: 15
SCORE: 13
JAPANESE WIN
Comment: I like it as is now, but the score probably needs to go
down. From the look of it the Japanese should have a hard time
reaching the Helldivers, but in both my games they have done so.
in both games they have been helped by the Corsairs having
trouble tallying. This is not a bad thing. There is some realy
interesting maneuver as the US sweeps meet the Japanese fighters
head-on, and if they move to engage, the Japanese can just fly
through them.
Anyway, except for the score, I think this one is good now.

Okay. I'll mark this at Alpha and we'll try and get a few plays
just to make sure the scoring's not off the mark.

I think G&A should have a look at it too.

Yes, I just didn't want them to interpret your alpha as asking
them to look elsewhere :-) I'm playing Smashing the Line now :-)
