S09 Operation 60 000

Player: Elias Nordling (solo)
This one is fairly quick and scripted, the main decision being
how many fighters the Germans allocate to tying up escorts. I
this game I used just one, sending the rest directly at the
bombers.
I'm a little concerned about the balance of this one, as the
Soviets are of decent quality, with superior fighters in
superior number, that now also have edge. In this game, the
Germans managed to properly disrupt the bombing and do the
killing, but they also lost half their force, and a lot of rolls
went the german way. The Sturmoviks used rockets, and rolled
fairly poor, for only 2 hits total.
Germans: 7 Sturmoviks, 4 Yaks: 11
Soviets: Bombing 1 (2 hits), 7 ftrs: 8
Score: Draw
Comment: I felt the Germans could have fared much worse, as the
Soviet fighters are a real threat. I'll run it again to get
another data point, but my gut feeling is that the Soviets could
need another green marker to make up for the three Edge ratings
they have gained.

My second playthrough didn't prove my point. This time I sent
BF109s against the two non-green Yaks, and two against the
bombers. Two bombers were disrupted before bombing and the
bombing rolled low. The Soviets also rolled low in air combat.
SCORE
Germans: 8 Sturmoviks, 2 Yaks: 10
Soviets: 1 point bombing, 3 BF109: 4
TOTAL: 6, German win
I still have the feeling my two games went the German way. It
plays quick, so I will try it once more.

Third try. Soviet rolls still suck but this time the German
rolls sucked too. Two German flights broke in the first combat.
Soviet bombing was a little better than usual.
Score:
Germans: 4 Sturmoviks, 3 Yaks: 7
Soviets: Bombing 4, 4 Bf109:s: 8
TOTAL: -1 Soviet Win.
Comment: This scenario is bound to be volatile. I've had one win
each and one draw. My gut feeling is still that the score
favours the Germans, but actual play has been balanced so far. I
think we might just let this one be as is.
