That's a good question. I think it should be combat/bombing as
for normal bombing.

I've been playing standard sequence of play: flak, bombing,
air-tor-air in that order. So it's possible for flak to inflict
a cohesion hit on bombers the same turn they drop their bombs,
and that any cohesion result affects the number of hits the
bombers inflict. (Any bombing modifier from the flak result is
disregarded, of course.)

Scenario: S19 Asso di Bastoni
October 30, 2020
Version: 1.3
Playtesters: Scott Key, solitaire
Report:
- Game lasted 8 turns
- There were 2 height errors at set-up
- GCI changed a vector 1 out of 2 attempts but there was an
additional height error
- Both veteran & experte counters were assigned to the Mc.205
sqns.
- One P-38 escort sqn split.
- The wispy clouds and altitude definitely reduced the amount of
damage that was done to the Airfield
Flak Summary:
- Direct Flak caused no hits or cohesion checks (this was
against the lead P-47s)
- Barrage Flak caused 7 Cohesion checks resulting in 1 sqn
Disrupting
- Barrage Flak caused 6 hits inflicting 3 stragglers and no
losses (there were some net losses to to existing stragglers)
Bombing Summary: (per SSR)
- x1 B-17 sqns were disrupted when bombing. (1/2/2/2)= 7 hits
- x1 B-24 sqns were disrupted when bombing. x1 sqn was Broken.
(0/2/1/2)= 5 hits
- 12 hits total on the Airfield for Crippling Damage (x2 vp)
USAAF: x3 Bf-109 downed: -3 vp; x6 Mc.205 downed: -6 vp;
Crippling Damage to Airfield: -20 vp= -29 vp
Luftwaffe/ANR: x6 P-38 downed: +9 vp; x1 B-17 downed: +3 vp; x5
B-24 downed: +15vp= +27 vp
Victory:
Total: -2
Recommendations:
- To sound like a broken record: this scenario feels balanced to
me. At first I thought the Axis was going to wipe the floor with
the US bombers but the heavy bomber formations ultimately tilted
things back towards the middle.
- I would not recommend any changes as this is a good
challenging scenario that presents some interesting choices.

A couple more data points and I think we're dome on this one. At
this stage it just needs plays to do due diligence on the
Victory Levels.
I've moved Scott S and Forrest onto this. One play from each of
them, plus any other plays people can do will give us the dasta
to lock this one down.
Can Dave D please move to S12 Return of the Guards and give us a
couple of plays?

Acknowledged: S12 Return of the Guards
The Asso di Bastoni Al and I have going on is looking
interesting. No idea yet how the VPs will go.

Scenario: S19 Asso Di Bastoni.
Version: v1.3.
Playtester: Scott Spencer(solo)
Report: Both German squadrons had gun pods. Backloaded the
vets and experte to two of the rear Axis squadrons, split
between a 109 and a Macchi. P-47s failed their tally rolls and
were attacked by the front Macchis. Both P-38s split to defend
the bombers. The escorts held off the fighters for a while.
All the bomber killing was done by the rear squadrons. Two B-24
squadrons were broken. Flak scored 1 kill but did little else.
Victory: Axis 31 points from six B-24(18), four P-47, and six
P-38 kills(9). Americans 27 points from six un-disrupted bomb
hits(20), two 109 kills, and 5 Macchi kills. Total +4 Draw.
Felt like Draw
Recommendations: I think this is in pretty good shape though it
feels like the Germans do have to work a little bit harder in
this one to get a win.

v 1.3
Solo
Game 1
Vets and experten in MC205 squadrons
No height errors
FLAK- pitiful, not a damn thing shot down. Was going for direct
fire shots, going to go for barrage next time.
BOMBING- 13 VP(6 unscathed squadrons, 1 disrupted and 1 broken)
LOSSES- 11 x MC 205 (2 from defending bomber fire)
11 VP
2 x B-17
1 x B-24
7 x P-38
3 x P-47
22.5 VP
VICTORY- - 1.5 American victory (felt like slight American
victory as bombers got through in decent shape and Axis losses
seemed high)
P-38's able to get the 2 MC205 vet squadrons in
dogfights and paid a price for it in losses, but rather lose
P-38's than bombers. Flak under performed. Seems balanced to me.
Always fun to play with Series 5 Italian fighters, so that is a
plus. Looks good as is.

Okay, with those plays, the results come out looking like this:
Bombing - 20 + 20 + 10 + 10 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 17.1
Axis losses - 7 + 13 + 13 + 11 + 9 + 7 + 11 = 10.1
American Losses - 25 + 21 + 43 + 40 + 27 + 31 + 22.5 = 29.9
This gives us a mean VP output of +2.7. I'll make a call on this
one shortly.

One more, please, Scott. Then I think we're probably done. The
mean numbers haven't shifted much, so I think we can do an
analysis on the basis of 8 plays.
