Also, what size are the A-36 flights, it doesn’t say in the
scenario.... (I assumed 6)

Oh! I think we have missed a veterans-can-split special rule
added by Gordon and Andrew. I'll fix that.

Okay, three further changes are coming to this scenario:
(1) Veterans have tactical flexibility.
(2) Flight max losses of 6 for the Yanks.
(3) If the American player inflicts no hits on the Railhead by
the end of the scenario, award the Germans 4 VPs. (This prevents
the American player from winning by running away.)

S31
v 0.3
Run #2
No height errors
FLAK- 1 x B-26 shot down, -1 mod for 1 bomb run
BOMBING- 7 hits for 10 VP
Bomb runs made with -2, -1 and +1 mods.
LOSSES- 4 x 109
4 VP
3 x B-26
2 x A-36
8 VP
VICTORY- 8 -14= -6 VP for American victory (felt like American
victory)
Germans missed tally on turn 2 that allowed
American to get jump on lead German 109 squadron. American vet
in trail B-26 able to bomb unscathed (neither disrupted or
broken). I've had a German victory and American victory in the
current configuration, so it looks good to me.

Does the new bombing system make an improvement?

Yes, it doesn't come down to a lucky die roll on bombing.
Bomb run mod hits
-2 0
-1 2 hits
0 2 hits
+1 5 hits
+2 5 hits
I think what this shows is that the Germans need to
disrupt/break all the B-26's as they can muster. The Americans
will move down to altitude level 2 to help the bombing mod and
the x factor will be flak rolls.

Scenario: S31 Apache Marauders
October 16, 2020
Version: 0.3
Playtesters: Scott Key, solitaire
Report:
- Game lasted 9 turns
- There were 0 height errors at set-up
- Both veteran & experte Luftwaffe counters were assigned to the
Wing Leader sqns.
- USAAF Veteran counters were assigned to the middle B-26 sqn
and the lead/top escort.
- Two German squadrons split, 1 flight each engaged the leading
Escorts. No Apache squadron split.
- The trailing A-36 sqn successfully reacted to a Bf-109 sqn
attempting to bounce the middle sqn of B-26s.
- All three escort sqns became involved in dogfights.
- All the flights broke in turns 4 and 5 as did the remaining
squadron. This left 2 disrupted escorts in place and the only
threat to the bombers was the flak.
- There were attacks on both leading B-26 squadrons. They
weren’t as effective as in my last game since the rolls were
more average.
Flak Summary:
- Direct Flak caused 2 Cohesion checks resulting in one B-26 sqn
Disrupting
- Direct Flak caused 2 hits inflicting 1 straggler
Bombing Summary:
- x1 B-26 sqns were disrupted at bombing.
- All B-26 Sqns level bombed the Railhead (10%/25%/25%) for 12
dmg (Crippling) +20 vp
USAAF:
-20 vp= -20 vp
Luftwaffe:
vp
Victory:
Total: -10
Recommendations:
- I think this is a reasonable result for this scenario given
the basically unsuccessful attacks against the B-26s.
- I think the new bombing SSR works well

Okay, I'm trying to do a difficult thing, and guess at the mean
results had we been using the new bombing SSR right from the
start. My estimate is:
US Bombing: 20 + 10 + 1 + 10 + 5 = mean 9.2
German losses: 3 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 5 = mean 3.2
US losses: 21 + 9 + 9 + 12 + 11 = mean 12.4
That's a mean output of +0.0 (!!)
So what about the plays after adopting the new rule?
US Bombing: 10 + 0 + 10 + 20 = mean 10.0
German losses: 0 + 3 + 4 + 3 = mean 2.5
US losses: 17 + 14 + 8 + 10 = mean 12.3
That's a mean output of +0.2
This is looking like we pretty much have the scenario nailed.
(Albeit it leans slightly American.) I think we can declare this
one at Beta and move everyone on!
Forrest, could you please take a look at L22 in Legends: Tip and
Run?
Scott K, could you please look at S19 Asso di Bastoni?
