v 0.2
Solo
American vet in trail B-26 and lead escort
German vets & experten lead squadrons
no height errors
FLAK- ineffective, nothing shot down, a couple of cohesion
checks
BOMBING- 12 hits for 20 VP (DR's were 7,7,9- slightly above
average)
LOSSES- 2 x 109
(2 VP)
3 x B-26
6 x A-36
(12 VP)
VICTORY- 22-12 for net 10. American victory, felt like
American victory as rail head was flattened.
Germans got off to a good start, able to tie
up the escorts and get some attacks on bombers without fighters
to intervene. Unable to convert some hits and slightly above
average bombing rolls decided this.
Will run again.

game 2
v0.2
solo
American vet in trail B-26 and lead escort
German vets & experten lead squadrons
no height errors
FLAK- -1 to first bomb run, nothing shot down
BOMBING- 18 hits, all from the 3rd bomb run with the veteran,
dr of 11 with a +2 mod. Other 2 bomb runs were misses, with mods
of -2 and -3 on them. 30 VP
LOSSES- 5 x B-26
1 x A-36
11 VP
5 x 109
5 VP
VICTORY- 35-11 for +24, massive US victory. Really felt Germans
were going to win this one until the final bomb run. If DR=7 on
that one, the hits would have been 5 and the final score would
have been 0, a German victory, albeit just barely. Bombing
scenarios are swingy and I think this one run through proves the
point.

So far the bomb runs have gleaned 20 + 10 + 10 + 20 + 30 VPs.
Certainly the average is a solid 18 but you're right this is
possibly too swingy. Perhaps we should move to a deterministic
bombing system like we have done for Asso di Bastoni. Something
that nets a mean number of VPs but can be affected by the number
of disruptions inflicted on the Marauders.
Let me do some work on this before testing again.

Okay, so let's move to a deterministic bombing system. Let's say
you do not roll to hit with the Marauders, but instead treat all
bombing die rolls as a die roll of 7, before applying modifiers?
Can we test with that special rule?

Yes, will give it a go with that

Okay, so if we move to a more deterministic system, which is
what I'm proposing, the key variable becomes relative loss VP.
Currently, the record of losses is:
German losses: 3 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 5 = mean 3.2
US losses: 21 + 9 + 9 + 12 + 11 = mean 12.4
This means the Americans are running a net deficit of -9.2 VPs.
On this basis, I'm going to flip the victory calculation and
make the American subtract from the German, with any value of +0
or less be an American win.

Scenario: S31 Apache Marauders
October 11, 2020
Version: 0.2
Playtesters: Scott Key, solitaire
Report:
- Game lasted 9 turns
- There were 0 height errors at set-up
- GCI moved the top wing’s vector once.
- Both veteran & experte Luftwaffe counters were assigned to the
Wing Leader sqns
- Bombers rolled lowish on their cohesion rolls
(9/5/5/4/7/4/10/5/9/11/5) (Avg 6.7)
- No Luftwaffe unit split
- The USAAF leading escort split but both flights ended up in
fighting the same Bf-109 sqn in a chain of tallies, so it the
split was wasted.
- The US squadrons obviously rolled lower on cohesion than the
Luftwaffe which told against them in the long run. By Turn 5
there were no US fighters left versus 3 disrupted/1 good order
Luftwaffe squadrons.
Flak Summary:
- Barrage Flak caused 2 Cohesion checks resulting in one Bf-109
sqn breaking
- Barrage Flak caused 1 hit with NE
- Direct Fire Flak caused 1 hit resulting in no loss. The hit
did cause a loss of cohesion on a B-26 squadron.
Bombing Summary:
- x1 B-26 sqn was broken at bombing.
- x2 B-26 sqns were disrupted at bombing.
- All B-26 Sqns level bombed the Railhead (0%/10%/25%) for 7 dmg
(Heavy) +10 vp
- If the squadrons had been one level higher in cohesion
(Disrupted/Good/Good) the results would have been (10%/25%/50%)
for 16 points of damage (Crippling) +20vp
USAAF:
+10
Luftwaffe:
Victory:
Total: -7
Recommendations:
- I really need to play this again to make any recommendations.
It feels inside the range of normal results rather than a lack
of balance.
- The A-36 does not feel up to the task but generally I do
better with escorts on the second + play

Note yesterday's change to the victory conditions. Your result
would be a +7 German victory.
I just realised that changing the victory conditions will
require an additional rule to punish the American player if they
run away at the start of play.

S31
v0.3
Solo
American vets in trail B-26 and lead escort
German vets and experten in lead 109's of each
No height errors
FLAK- 1 x B-26 shot down, -1 to one bomb run
BOMBING- 0 VP, npt a single hit
LOSSES- 7 x B-26
14 VP
3 x 109
3 VP
VICTORY- 11 VP for solid German victory (felt like German
victory)
Escorts had a bad day, missed a few reaction rolls
and Germans negated reaction with a couple of head on passes
that paid dividends for them. Two of the B-26's were broken when
dropping their loads, so they were not going to hit anything.
Will run again and see if I can do better with the Americans.
