       Supremacy second edition
By: pilotofficerprune Date: February 24, 2020, 1:56 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
So, if GMT plump for an expanded second edition reprint of
Supremacy, here's the list of changed stuff from the first
printing (this also happens to be the list of the update kit):
       Update Rulebook to v2.2
Update player aid cards (1 x bombing card, 2 x air combat cards)
       to v2.2
Update 6 x Aircraft Data Card sheets to v2.2
Add a sheet of four new ADCs and new 1/2" marker counters (use
same combined sheet template as Victories second edition)
Updated and expanded Scenario Book with new scenarios
So, of the new stuff, what are the new ADCs and scenarios?
       ADCs
We've talked about this in the past but my working list is as
       follows:
       Lancaster
       late model Halifax
       Ta 152H
       A-36 Mustang (or another aircraft)
I'm fairly firm on the first three aircraft, only moderately
firm on the last one, though we do have a Scott S. scenario for
it, which makes it a very strong runner.
       Scenarios
So we take the existing Supremacy scenario book, then add the
seven scenarios from scenario supplement 2. Now, I'm not sure of
the page count on that; however, we then add in two to four new
scenarios that support the new ADCs. (I need to get a proper
page count before I can estimate new page content.)
       How does that sound?

There will be space for a small number of additional squadron
counters, but likely extra content would be:
2 x Extra P-51D sqns to deconflict IDs with B-17s in scenario
       S20
2 x Mustang III sqns in RAF scheme
2 x Mustang III flts in RAF scheme
       5 x Lancaster sqns
6 x Late Model Halifax sqns
       3 x A-36 sqn
       2 x A-36 flts
       1 x Ta 152 sqn
       3 x Ta 152 flts
       1 x Railhead / Lt Flak C
       1 x Hvy Flak D / Submarine
       1 x Ju 87G squadron for scenario S12
       1 x Yak-7B squadron for scenario S29
1 x Brazilian P-47 sqn, cut from Legends
       = total 31
       Possibles:
       RAF Mustang Mk.IV
       RAF Thunderbolt Mk.I, Mk.II (Burma)
       RAF Marauder Mk.I
       RAF Tempest II
       Soviet B-25C/D
       Chinese P-40N (Chinese-American Composite Wing)
       Chinese B-25
       Chinese P-51B
       Croatian Bf 109G
       Mexican P-47D
       Soviet Yak-9T
       Soviet Spitfire Mk.IX

Sounds good! Some re-testing will be needed for the on map
bombing scenarios due to various revisions in bombing rates and
       mods.

Agreed, though I suspect we can pick and choose which scenarios
       need a fresh look.

Looks like a plan to me. RAF P-51s will be a neat addition.

I recall there was a daylight raid by RAF heavies listed in
Caldwell's book in which Mustang IV escorts could credibly have
       made an appearance.

So, initial thoughts on the Supremacy 2e rulebook:
       (1) No rule changes - I want to treat the system as locked down
       (2) We can look at whether the text would benefit from any
clarifications or word changes from Victories 2e, but I want to
limit those or ideally avoid them completely; I think there
needs to be a high bar for text changes
       (3) Typo fixes (if any)
       (4) Cosmetic changes, such as the cover
       (5) Examples of play reflect the late-war setting
       (6) Unsure whether or not this will be marked as v2.2.1 or kept
at v2.2 - this may depend on whether there are any text changes

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Initial thoughts on the Supremacy 2e scenario book:
       (1) Existing scenarios + supplement #2 scenarios
       (2) +1 page for 'differences since first edition', as per
       Victories
       (3) Check page count to see how many pages available for
       additional scenarios
       (4) All scenarios need proofing and revision to 2e standard. We
may need to look at things such as split limits.
       (5) The 'What ADC Do I Use?' will need proofing and revision,
particularly as some ADCs have expanded to include post-war
       variant data.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Initial thoughts on the Supremacy 2e ADCs and scenarios:
       (1) As discussed upthread, my draft ADC list is as follows:
       Lancaster
       Late-model Halifax
       Ta 152H
       A-36 Mustang
       (2) I believe with the help of Caldwell I can construct one or
possibly two scenarios featuring the RAF heavies. From memory
these would be in longer streams than usual B-17 boxes. There
may be some cool escorts, and I'd like to try and find a
scenario that features Mustang IVs, because we all want to see
       bubbletop Mustangs in RAF drag.
       (3) I'll look at Scott's proposed scenario for the Ta 152H.
Another possibility is a counterfactual that permits us to have
       more than one squadron.
       (4) We already have a draft A-36 scenario to look at, though
they operate as escorts in that scenario.
       (5) Alternative aircraft to the A-36:
Late-model B-25J (needs scenarios featuring them)
       ??? any other ???
       (6) No idea yet on the total number of new scenarios, but
anything between 2 and 5 is possible. Testing could not commence
until after Legends is done, so August/September or later.

I think there are a couple of potential RAF daylight bombing
scenarios in Caldwell, including one with Me 262s vs Lancasters.
That would make an interesting Legends cover for sure. My Ta
152 scenario was based on a March 2, 1945 bomber intercept.
Only 12 Ta 152s took part flying top cover but saw no action,
possibly due to being attacked by Me 109s that mistook them for
Allied fighters. A counterfactual might work better. I do
recall reading about a low level fight between Tempests and a
couple of Ta 152s. That might make for a fun fight in much
       expanded form.
