Okay, here’s the VP results across all plays, bearing in mind
the adjustments have been small.
US bomber loss VPs: 21 + 24 + 6 + 24 + 9 + 18 = mean 17
US fighter loss VPs: 4 + 7 + 4 + 4 + 6 + 7 = mean 5.3
US bombers disrupted: 1 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 0
US bombers broken: 1 + 0 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 2
Exit VPs: 9 + 9 + 15 + 9 + 12 + 6 = mean 10
German fighter loss VPs: 21 + 10 + 14 + 9 + 15 + 11 = mean 13.3
This gives us a mean victory output of 22.3 - 23.3 = -1
I am tempted, given greater amounts of data and the strange
result that gave Scott’s Germans a draw when they broke two
bomber squadrons, to reverse the victory calculation again. That
average result should be a draw and it currently favours the
Americans.
I will:
- Reverse the victory calculation
- Narrow the draw window slightly to 5 points
- Give the Germans a win on 0 or less.
With that, I’ll stick a pin in this and call it Alpha-ready.

To catch up with I would like to state few starting points for
the design of the scenario:
The historical battle went as following. Bf109 engaged Mustangs
in order to split them from the bombers completely. Sturmbocks
were able to engage the bombers totally undefended but soon the
Mustangs were catching up the fight and turning the tide. The
important role played P-51 appearing at Z13 which was also 55th
FG and was somehow lost (pursuing single German fighter or
something like that) but luckily saw the battle and engaged.
I wanted the battle was as much realistic as possible meaning
that following this possible historical script 50 aircraft
should be shot down just during the "second" battle (when
bombers are engaged and later). The intent of most of my design
decisions like placement of the bombers was to achieve this
number. I am not sure if the mean VPs are too much bellow this
target.
Scott, reading the reports were you motivated to delay the
Mustangs with Bf109s? Or rather enagage the bombers with the
whole German force?
I have noticed you have removed my +1 GCI modifier for Germans
on Turn 1. I felt the scenario was very random without this
since it is crucial to turn Fw109s towards the bombers as soon
as possible. I know it is a bit artifical and it is not a "must"
for me but the Germans knew about the flight path at the moment
of the battle. So it is not completely artificial.
One thing about the wording. I think my notice in special rule
number 1 "German player is encouraged to change the vectors
anytime then. Read the set-up of the bombers!" or something like
that could really help first time players of the scenario to not
to completely mess it up. I expect the appearence of the bombers
in the middle of the map is a bit unusual and therefore could be
easily overlooked. But you have probably more experience with
what players will notice or not.
And the last and maybe the most important for me is the question
of the picture :) Lee, could you use my original photo of B-17
tail crashed on the roof of the building? The thing is there is
the village called Kovarska. The hell of second phase of the
battle was just happening above this place. The photo is a bit
iconic for the people there. It is the roof of the school and
the school is still standing there. It looks just the same only
the roof was of course repaired. There is very interesting
museum dedicated just to this battle there which descendants of
American and German pilots KIA on that day regularly visit. I
think the scenario deserves this photo. (And at least it is
clearly the tail of B-17.)
I must take a deeper look at the changes but I am very happy so
far with your play testing results. Especially with VP counting
which I didn't like (or maybe even messed up) in my original
design.

I tried it both ways. When the 109s failed their GCI roll at
the end of turn 1 I had them engage the Mustangs. The other
times when I made their GCI roll I had them get a shot in on the
bombers before the Mustangs could catch up. Interesting dilemma
to have.

Petr, I can restore the first turn GCI modifier if you want.
Regarding adding the gameplay advice, I’m kind of tight on space
for this.
As for the picture, is there a high-resolution copy of the image
anywhere?

Scott, what do you think about GCI +1 for the turn 1? I am more
for it but could be convinced otherwise.
Regarding the picture, take a look here:
HTML http://www.leteckabadatelna.cz/havarie-a-sestrely/detail/481/
It shows what I was talking about. The school is name named sgt.
J.C. Kluttze.
If the picture quality is not sufficient enough I can contact
director of that museum. I was consulting the scenario with him
during the design. They probably have original of this photo.

Petr, it's not as high resolution as I'd like. If it's possible
for you to obtain a higher-resolution image (a .jpg would be
fine) then I could use it.

I think the GCI at 3 is fine.
Lee, any others that need a look? I've gotten Vassal down
fairly well now which largely cat-proofs my playtesting and I
can increase my pace some.

please.

I have played with the changes you made to the scenario and I am
very satisfied how it looks now. I would like to have GCI +1
first turn modifier in it as it is now. There are no open
questions left from my point of view.
I am trying to get the high-resolution image but I may or may
not be successful with that.

Great to hear, Petr. I'll leave the image as it is for now, but
if you can lay hands on a high resolution picture, or a scan of
one, then I'd be happy to substitute it.
