Radio Nets Ancona - Strafing MC.200s
The word strafing no longer applies. I don't know if the
original scenario had all MC.200s as strafing or just some, so
take an extra look just to be sure.

[s]Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but you could play this
scenario without Blitz if you do have Origins, right?[/s]
Never mind, you can do it but you'd have to use Republicans as
stand-ins for the Soviets.

v0.6
Player: Elias Nordling (Solo)
With Green Soviet pilots and 0 FP Italian aircraft, at first it
felt like no one was going to get hurt in this scenario. After a
big confused fighter battle with few lost fighters, the Italians
emerged to attack the bombers, one Soviet fighter got a few
passes on the Italian bombers, and one Soviet fighter ignored
most of the air battle and strafed instead. That fighter was the
only one to hit anything on the ground, as the bombing overall
was very ineffective. The Italians finally found success at
shootoing down the SB:s that were easier to finish than the
I16s.
Score:
Italian: 6 bombers, 4 fighters: 14
Soviet: 1 bomb hit, 3 fighters, 1 bomber: 6
Total 8 ITALIAN VICTORY
Felt like: Italian victory
COMMENT: From a first playthrough, I found nothing I wanted to
change and the score seemed to be in the right range. I'll play
it again now that I'm familiar with it to see if anything goes
different.

v0.6
Player: Elias Nordling (Solo)
This playthrough saw more Soviet fighters slipping through to
strafe, with some success. On the other hand, Soviet bomber
losses were heavier, partly due to vicious flak. Several Soviet
fighters also quit early. Lots of maneuvering on both sides,
with many choices and no obvious perfect strategies.
Final score:
Italian: 8 bombers, 3 fighters (no bombing hits) 17,5
Soviet: 4 bombing, 5 fighters: 9
TOTAL: 8,5
Italian win
Felt like: Italian win
Comment: I felt the Soviets might have been on the unlucky side
with the bomber losses this game. Still, neither of my
playthroughs was a total blowout, which is encouraging. I'm
inclined to think the Soviets can win with better luck. I still
see no reason to change anything, and further playings should
calibrate the score. I think this one is done with the tinkering
phase.

Just going through all the test numbers so far:
Italian bombing VPs - 1 + 6 + 0 + 0 + 0 = mean 1.4 VPs
Soviet loss VPs - 3.5 + 7.5 + 18 + 14 + 17.5 = mean 12.1 VPs
Italian loss VPs - 6 + 6 + 8 + 5 + 5 = mean 6.0 VPs
Soviet bombing VPs - 4 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 4 = mean 2.4 VPs
This gives us a mean output of 13.5 - 8.4 = 5.1
The shift in mean VPs, from +3 to +5 suggests we need at least a
couple more data points before we can put this to bed.

First Game
Italian veterans in bomber and the MC200 in I4 (next game I will
put them in squadron in H4).
Soviet greens to the 4 sweep squadrons
FLAK- 1 BR 20 down
1 I 16 down
A couple of other hits, but no damage.
Bombing- 2 VP for Soviets (were 1 hit away from scoring 4 VP)
0 VP for Italians (BR20's were disrupted)
Losses- 2 BR 20
5 MC 200
9 VP
7 SB
6 I 16
17 VP
17-11 (+6 Italian win)
Felt like Italian win as the Soviet bomber losses
were high.
I assumed I 16's could strafe as well another hit
would have netted Soviets 2 VP.
I didn't have the MC200's strafe at all- the points
for downing bombers made them a juicier target.
No recommendations for VC changes at this point.

Forrest,
Sweep squadrons can strafe. Escort squadrons cannot, but if they
get a tally on an enemy they switch to the sweep mission and if
they stay in sweep (i.e. don't try to form back up with the
bombers) they are eligible to strafe.
