Andrew & I played it with the Japanese having tactical
flexibility-which i think is quite helpful for them. If space
permits it would be good to keep tactical flexibility & split
limits of 4 Zeroes for the Japanese (only)
Cheers
Gordon

Yes, I think the Japanese should have Tactical Flexibility.

Scenario:L07 Disaster at Clark Field — February28 , 2020- PLAY
#1
Version: 0.3
Playtesters: Scott Key, solitaire
Report:
- Game lasted 9 turns
- There was one height error affecting one of the P-40E Sqns.
- The USAAC green marker was assigned to the P-35A sqn. The
experte marker to a P-40E sqn.
- The IJN veteran markers were assigned 2 to upper sweep, 2 to
lower sweep and 2 to G4M1s. The experte to the top, forward
sweep.
- Generally speaking the tally rolls by the interceptors were
not great. Usually being one less than needed. As a result the
P-40E Sqns never really had a chance to get at the Bombers.
- The taking off P-40B sqn missed it’s tallies for several turns
and didn’t make a difference in the strafing results since it
only got into combat after strafing had occurred.
- The P-35A set it’s vector high when it should have focused on
getting back and attacking the strafers. It would have come into
action a couple of turns earlier. That being said the P-35 A sqn
ended with an altitude advantage over two Zero squadrons which
allowed it to be the attacker and be “present” in the fight
against them both. Next time I may not assign them the green
marker.
- The reinforcing P-40E flight inflicted all the bomber losses
but broke after it’s first attack.
-IJN fighters were very aggressive in the later turns looking to
score vp when it looked like the game would be a loss for them.
However they lost as much as they inflicted so it was for
nothing. Probably should have backed off once the Fatal damage
level was achieved (turn 6).
Flak Summary:
- Small Arms barrage was generally ineffective. 2 cohesion
checks were inflicted and neither caused any loss of cohesion.
Bombing Summary:
- G3M2s inflicted 0/3/3 damage
- G4M1s inflicted 4/4/1 damage
- Strafing inflicted 1/1/1/1 damage
IJN: =+9 vp fighter kills; +30 vp Fatal Damage to Airfield= +39
vp
USAAC: -8 vp fighters downed; -4 vp bombers downed= -12 vp
Victory: IJN
Total: +27 vp
Recommendations:
- Bombing seemed to fall right in the average range
- Obviously the Japanese won by 2 points of damage (from the
last two strafing attacks) which pushed the Airfield’s damage
level to Fatal so the game could easily have been an USAAC
victory.
- Out of the average Rolls were usually reciprocated so I don’t
feel like one side or the other had a luck advantage
- So this feels balanced and ready for Beta. It is a tricky one
since the normal temptation to go after the twin-engine bombers
can lead to useless positioning by the interceptors.

Also:
What components from Supremacy are needed for this scenario? It
is listed as being required....

Cool. I'll mark this as beta-ready.
The requirement for Supremacy was written back when there were
B-17s in the scenario. Now that they have been canned I should
strike that requirement. Good catch.
Can I move you on to L15 Tussle Over Trapani?

At the end of alpha the victory levels for this one are hard to
assess because of the mass of changes made, and a lack of data
other than Scott's last test. I shall leave the victory levels
as they are for the moment, but I think we need at least three
play-throughs to make sure.

Lee,
Scenario: L07 Disaster at Clark Field - 1st playing
Version: v0.3
Playtesters: Jean Foisy [Solo]
Report: This action packed scenario is quite fun to play, lots
of decisions to make.
In the Early turns the Nells managed to hit hard the airfield;
15 VPs in the first 2 turns while 2 Squadrons of Zero lost their
time trying to hit something in strafing.
Finally the second Zero was sent to intercept the coming P-35.
I had placed the P-35 vector far away from the airfiled hoping
to get some bombers when they return to base.
Unfortunately the devious Japanese player choose to return to
base on the left side of the map.
All the bombers losses were from the last Betty of the formation
which was under attack all the way from the the bombing run
to the left edge of the map by the P-40E flight and a P-40E
Squadron.
Victory:
Japanese bombing: 22 hits for 30 VPs
Japanese enemies shot down: 5 VPs (2 P-40B + 2 P40E + 1 P-35)
JAPANESE TOTAL= 35 VPs
US enemies shot down: 16 VPs (5 Bettys + 6 Zeros)
US TOTAL= 16 VPs
Scenario TOTAL: 19 VPs; --> Draw [Perceived Victory Level:
Japanese because the results of the Bombing. H0 base destroyed]
Recommendations: None for now
Tomorrow I'll do the 2nd test.
Best.
Jean

Scenario: L07 Disaster at Clark Field
Version: v0.3
Playtester: Jean Foisy [Solo]
Report:
The bombers hit Clark Field with less accuracy than before.
Fortunately the strafing squadrons managed to get 6 hits.
The Japanese had planned to harass the US fighters to get enough
VPs to redeem their losses.
They were very effective downing 11 US fighters while losing 8
of their own and only 2 Bettys.
The US side attempted to reach the bombers but the effectiveness
of the Zeros in protecting the bombers gave poor results.
This time the P-35 arrived late and tried to engage a lone Zero
Squadron attacking for 4 turns the broken Warhawk trying to
return to base.
Victory:
Japanese bombing: 23 hits( including 6 Strafing hits) for 30 VPs
Japanese enemies shot down: 11 VPs (6 P-40B + 5 P40E)
JAPANESE TOTAL= 41 VPs
US enemies shot down: 12 VPs (2 Bettys + 8 Zeros)
US TOTAL= 12 VPs
Scenario TOTAL: 29 VPs; --> Japanese Victory [Perceived Victory
Level: Japanese because of the air combat results]
Recommendations: None for now
On to test #3
Jean
