One question about special rule #4: Does the Swordfish flight
need to be carrying its torpedo load when it exits to be
eligible for the 2 VP award? The rule doesn't say so explicitly,
so I was inclined to jettison the torpedoes right away. But
we're not sure whether the Swordfishs' objective is to go on a
raid of their own, or merely survive.

We may need a 'no jettison' rule.
Update: No jettison rule added.

OK. That's how we're running the current test game. The
Swordfish are keeping their torpedoes and a flight of Fulmars
are helping defend against the Zeros.

Another possibility is to allow the Swordfish to jettison stores
as usual, but say that they exit with stores and without losses
to earn the 2 VP.
I'm looking ahead to the possibility that a Swordfish will get
shot down, and the rest will want to jettison to make themselves
slightly less tempting targets for VP farming. This probably
won't make a big difference, but I mention it for thoroughness.

Is there any word from Dave and Pete on how this one is going?

Is there a progress report on this scenario? Is there a game in
progress? If not, I'd like to hand it off to someone else to
look at.

Can Dave or Pete give me an estimate on when we might see the
first AAR?
I appreciate everyone is volunteering and that life can get in
the way of testing. If any testers are having problems finding
time to commit to or coordinate test with a partner that's
entirely understandable. Please let me know if you need to
downscope your testing and we'll figure something out. However,
I still haven't had a peep from anyone on this scenario for
weeks. If I've heard no progress by next weekend (7 March) I'll
reallocate the Easter Sunday Raid to another test team.

Scenario: L08 The Easter Sunday Raid (First Play)
Version: v0.2
Playtesters: Pete (Japanese)/ Dave (British)
Report: This was a tough one for the British from the start.
Japanese fighters dictated the conditions for almost all the
combats and broke the British fighters quickly. And the bombing
. . . . every hurricane on the ground was destroyed by the lead
dive-bombers by a very lucky bombing roll. With the airfield
heavily damaged on the first dive bombing attack, all remaining
bombers targeted the port and managed to score Crippling damage
on it. The Aux 1 was not attacked at all. The Swordfish flight
suffered one loss to steal the bonus objective from the British.
British fighters managed some success against the trailing B5N2
squadrons but all the dive bombers and some B5N2 squadrons came
through it unscathed. British losses were high. Many of the
British fighters were bounced as they failed many tally rolls on
the Japanese.
Japanese losses = 2 A6M2s, 8 B5N2s
British losses = 10 Hurricanes, 3 Fulmars, 1 Swordfish
Victory:
Japanese bombing (34) + air kills (14) = 48
British air kills = 10
Total: +38 in the British favor. This felt like a massive
Japanese victory
Recommendations: Reading the aftermath of the scenario makes it
sound like this is what was supposed to happen. I feel like with
more average bombing results, that Hurricane flight may have
taken off but would have only lasted one combat possibly. This
may simply need some VP matrix balancing. Maybe taking away the
green markers from British would help keep the British units in
the fight a little longer and make this more balanced. Maybe a
special rule stating "Japanese cannot inflict more than Heavy
Damage to ground targets" would keep Japanese from scoring
excessive VP from bombing.

I think this is one of those scenarios where we may need to cap
VPs on targets to force the raider to distribute their attacks
around. However, the page real-estate is crammed and so it's
hard to find space to add this. (Another problem being that we
may need to add split limits to the scenario at some point.)
One problem is that the Swordfish rule takes up so much space.
What could we do to slim this text down?
Also, do we need to reduce the bombing damage caused to the
flight taking off? (For example, two hits to generate a loss.)
