       Scenario:L12 Army Day — January 31, 2020- PLAY #1
       Version: 0.1
Playtesters: Scott Key, solitaire MY 100th GAME OF WING LEADER
       Report:
       - Game lasted 8 turns
       - No height errors
       - Japanese Veteran markers assigned to both Oscar squadrons, the
trailing Ki-49 Sqn and the Ki-48 Sqn. The Australians assigned
veterans to the M17 squadron. The Green Spitfire sqn was in J16.
       - Japanese experte assigned to top Ki-43 sqn; RAAF experte was
       assigned to M17 sqn
       - The RAAF veteran experte Sqdn tallied the Ki-43 escorts right
away, split and in turn two both Oscar squadrons were engaged.
Both combats then were turned into dogfights by the Spitfire
flights. These ended after another turn of combat with 2 Ki-43s
and 1 Spitfire downed. 1 Australian flight and both Oscar
       squadrons then broke.
       - The green Spitfire sqn tallied the leading Ki-49s with a late
reaction from the Oscar escort flight. 1 spitfire was downed and
both fighter units broke. The bombers became disrupted.
       - The Spitfire veteran/experte flight tallied & bounced the
trailing Ki-49 sqn downing 2 and straggling another. This was
followed by an attack by the fresh Spitfire sqn vectored in from
G12 who downed two more Lilys before breaking. The Trailing
       bomber flight also became disrupted.
       Flak Summary:
       - Barrage flak downed one Ki-48 and also disrupted the Lily sqn
       - Direct flak rolled badly and thus was ineffective
       Bombing Summary:
       - Both Ki-49 squadrons were disrupted by the time they bombed
which, combined with bad rolls, inflicted 0% hits
       - The Ki-48 sqn inflicted 10% bombing hits on the airfield then
1 point of damage each from Strafing on the supplies and 0 drag
from Strafing to the airfield (with a 100% and 50% hit on each
       respectively)
       - I walked through a different version of the Ki-48 attack in
which it bombed the supplies then strafed them for two rounds.
With the same rolls the results were minor damage for +5vp this
would have changed the final score for the IJAAF to +6 and the
net total to -7vp still resulting in a solid RAAF win.
       IJAAF: =[s]+2 vp fighter downed; +1 slight damage to Airfield;
       +1 vp slight damage to Supplies= +4 vp [/s]
RAAF: [s]-6 vp fighters downed; -10 vp bombers downed = -16
       vp[/s]
       Victory: Australians
       Total: [s]-12 VP[/s]
SEE REVISED SCORING IN POST BELOW
       Recommendations:
       - This is a good, interesting scenario which may be
       unbalanced....
       - The maximum possible damage to the Supplies from Bombing
(assuming 3 veteran counters are assigned to the bombers) is 14
damage from the Helens and 8 from the Lily sqn which nets 30 vp
for Fatal damage or if the Ki-48 is used to suppress the flak in
I0 then still 30 vp for fatal damage to Supplies and 6 vp for
       crippling damage to the battery.
       - However for rolled 7s the maximum vp (again assuming all
bomber squadrons are veteran)becomes 0 damage from the Ki-49s
and 3 damage (1 from level bombing, 2 from 2 Strafing attacks)
from the Ki-48 to the Supplies for a total of 10 vp.
       - Given the above possible numbers this scenario can go pretty
far in favor of either side but my guess is that usually the
game will fall comfortably inside the RAAF victory zone. When it
doesn’t it will be a LARGE victory for the IJAAF. Draws seem
       pretty unlikely.
       - The issue here is really with the target. The Supplies give up
to 30 vp for a relatively small amount of inflicted damage
however it isn’t that easy for 2/3 bombers to score any damage
       at all.
       - Next play I may remove the veteran counter from the RAAF as a
       first step towards balancing.

I saw the other Scott's question in the Rules section about
sweeps and GCI. As originally written this scenario had the
Spitfires on an Intercept Mission. Was this changed or is this
possibly an error? Scenario L09 also has the Japanese Zero
       defenders on Sweeps with GCI.

I'll take a look. It's entirely possible an error crept in.
Which of course is WHY WE TEST! :)

It would certainly make more sense.
I set it up that way (intercept missions) then realized that the
       scenario actually said sweep.

       Scenario:L12 Army Day — February, 2020- PLAY #2
       Version: 0.1
       Playtesters: Scott Key, solitaire
       Report:
       - Game lasted 11 turns
       - No height errors
       - Japanese Veteran markers assigned to the top escort Oscar
squadrons, both Ki-49 Sqn and the Ki-48 Sqn. The Australians
assigned veteran to the M17 squadron. The Green Spitfire sqn was
       in J16.
       - Japanese experte to top Ki-43 sqn; RAAF experte. Assigned to
       M17 sqn
       - The big difference in this was that I assigned the squadrons
Intercept missions and vectored the G12 spitfire sqn down onto
the Lily sqn. The fighters inflicted 3 losses on the Ki-48s
       before breaking.
       - There were no losses to the Ki-49s
       Flak Summary:
       - Barrage flak eventually broke the Lily sqn
       - Direct flak caused only cohesion checks which were both
       passed.
       Bombing Summary:
       - One Ki-49 squadron scored 25% hits/ 7 damage on the flak
suppressing it. The other scored 10% hits/ 1 damage vs the
       supplies
       - The Ki-48 sqn inflicted 0% bombing hits on the Supplies then
strafed for 25%/ 0 damage. It followed with another strafing
attack on the supplies which scored 0% hits.
IJAAF: =+6 vp fighter kills; +3 Heavy dmg to Flak; +1 vp slight
       dmg to Supplies= +10 vp
RAAF: -4 vp fighters downed; -6 vp bombers downed = -10 vp
       Victory: Australians
       Total: -0 VP
       Recommendations:
       - I would change the G12 squadron to CAP to increase the chance
(slight though it is) that it won’t be vectored against the
       Lilys until too late.
       - I still might drop the veteran counter from the RAAF, maybe
dropping the Green one as well in balance for it.
       - You could step this scenario forward 1 move (in effect
starting at turn 2 for the Japanese) since with the correct
set-up it’s impossible to tally in turn 1. I would leave the
       RAAF starting positions the same.
       - It is a fun, challenging scenario with a variety of choices
(do I suppress flak or not?, for example) that obviously needs a
       bit of balancing.

In reviewing my notes for my FIRST play (1/31) I realized that I
applied a -1 No Radios penalty to the Japanese fighters’
cohesion rolls (for no good reason) SO....
I was able to replay the relevant parts of the game and need to
submit this revised score for the official record:
IJAAF: +3 vp fighters downed, +1 vp bombing slight Airfield, +1
       bombing slight Supplies= +5 vp
RAAF: -8 vp fighters killed, -4 vp bombers killed = -12 vp
       Net: -7 vp RAAF win

Okay, I will make the following changes:
       (1) Drop the Aussie Veteran
       (2) Se up one of the Aussie squadrons on CAP
       (3) Set up the Japanese two squares left
       (4) Add a special rule to cap the Airfields and Supplies at 10
       VPs each
       (5) Adjust the draw window down, in favour of the Japanese

       Scenario:L12 Army Day — February7, 2020- PLAY #3
       Version: 0.2
       Playtesters: Scott Key, solitaire
       Report:
       - Game lasted 10 turns
       - No height errors
       - Japanese Veteran markers assigned to the top escort Oscar
squadrons, both Ki-49 Sqn and the Ki-48 Sqn.nThe Green Spitfire
       sqn was in J16.
       - Japanese experte to top Ki-43 sqn. RAAF a experte assigned to
       the M17 sqn.
       - GCI was not able to vector the CAP sqn until the end of Turn
       4.
       - A large dogfight developed between two Ki-43 squadrons and the
experte Spitfires in turn 3. The Spits and the veteran Oscar sqn
both broke after each side took one loss.
       - The Green Spitfires attacked the lead Helens and were late
reacted to by the trailing Oscar flight. Both sides inflicted a
loss, the bombers took a straggler, the Oscars then broke and
       the Spitfires disrupted.
       - A second round of attacks by the Green Spitfires ended with no
losses and the RAAF sqn breaking.
       - After the poor bombing rolls by the Ki-49s the remaining Oscar
sqn dropped in an attempt either strafe or tally and attack the
       CAP spitfires.
       - After it’s final strafe attack the Ki-48s climbed and were
intercepted by the CAP Spitfires. After a second round of combat
the Spits downed two Lilys but became broken.
       - The diving Oscars were broken by Direct flak
       Flak Summary:
       - Barrage flak scored an ineffective hit against friendly
Spitfire sqn; ineffective hit and a couple of cohesion checks on
       the Ki-48s (NE)
       - Direct flak scored a hit on the lead Ki-49 sqn (NE) & a
cohesion check on a strafing/sweep Oscar sqn (which became
       broken).
       Bombing Summary:
       - Ki-49s bombed flak (rolled 6 +1 -4) for 0% hits and Supplies
       (rolled 5 +1 -4)for 0% hits
       - Ki-48s scored 10% hits on the Supplies for 1 damage then a
strafing attack against the supplies for 25% (no damage ) and
       another for 100% (1 damage).
IJAAF: =+2 vp fighter kills; +5 vp Minor dmg to Supplies= +7 vp
RAAF: -1 vp fighters downed; -4 vp bombers downed = -2 vp
       Victory: Australians
       Total: +2 VP
       Recommendations:
       - Felt like the RAAF flubbed this with some bad rolls but they
still finished with a (very marginal) win.
       - The below average bombing roll for the Ki-48s lost the
scenario since a rolled 7 would have scored another point of
       damage.
       - I hesitate to recommend any further changes as the balance
seems to be correct. As I wrote above one level improvement
to the Ki-48s bombing would have added +5 vp making this an
       IJAAF victory.
