Re: L17 Royal Bulgarian Air Force

I hot halfway through my first game of this one, before my
computer shut down due to low battery WITHOUT putting the
programs in sleep mode. I foolishly hadn't saved the game.
That far into the game, the Bulgarians were running out of steam
and the P38s leaving the fight at about the same pace as the
Bulgarians. 2 bombers had been shot down and one P38, while
about 8 Bulgarian fighters had ben lost. One bomber was
disrupted.
I set up the fighters 2 squares above the bombers and circled
the forward bombers on turn 1 to allow the second group to catch
up. This gave the US a tally advantage but didn't seem to break
the game.

Roger that. Do you need to give it another run?

Yes. I'm not sure I'll get it done before the end of the week,
I've been lacking energy due to a (regular) cold.

For some reason, I had set up the Bulgarians too far away last
game. Closer setup will help them.

v0.2
Player: Elias Nordling (solo)
Everyone did a fairly good job in this plythrough. The Bulgarian
fighters got through to the bombers, breaking one and shooting
down one in 6 attacks, mostly head-on. They also killed a decent
amount of P38s. The P38s shot down a lot of bulgarian fighters.
The flak did its part dealing out two more disruptions and
downing another bomber, and finally the two disrupted bombers
rolled 12 and 11 for 25 and 10% damage.
Final score:
US: Bombing 5 + 10 fighters: 15
Bulgarians: 6 P38, 2 B24: 15
TOTAL: 0 Bulgarian victory
Felt like: Bulgarian win
Comment: I accidentally played with the bombing rules and had
some luck, scoring heavy damage. Counting the result, one point
shift here and there was enough to flip the game from a US to a
Bulgarian win, so going for fixed points is probably right. But
maybe the points should be a little higher? With my two
disrupted and one broken bomber, the score would still have
averaged at least 6 points.
I thought this scenario worked fine, the special rule for bomber
cohesion is just enough to make the Bulgarian effort meaningful,
and combined with what I saw in my first game that my computer
aborted, I think all that remains is fine tuning the score.
Ready for beta.
PS: Just to be absolutely clear, you might want to have special
rule 2 say undisrupted instead of unbroken, and special rule 3
make clear that flak rolls cohesion on the flak column still.

Both good suggestions to the SSRs. I shall mark this one as
completing alpha.
Can you please switch to L16 The Last Hurrah?

Stuff to do on this scenario:
(1) Have special rule 2 say undisrupted instead of unbroken
(2) have special rule 3 make clear that flak rolls cohesion on
the flak column
With regards for the state of the victory conditions at alpha,
test output so far is:
American bombing VPs - 6 + 10 + 6 + 5 = mean 6.75 VPs
Bulgarian fighter losses - 5 + 3 + 8 + 10 = mean 6.5 VPs
American losses - 3 + 3 + 12 + 15 = mean 8.25 VPs
This gives us an average score of +5 VPs. I'm going to nudge the
draw window up one to +4 to +6.5 and then cast this out to beta.

Scenario: L17 Royal Bulgarian Air Force Test 1
Version: v0.3
Playtesters: Jean Foisy [Solo]
Report:
Very swiftly the Bulgarian Dewoitine engaged head on the leading
Bombers.
This Turn 2 assault, rolling 6,6 and 5,6 left no chance to the
Liberators, downing 4 of them, breaking 1 Squadron and
Disrupting the other.
For the next 3 turns the Bulgarians were kept at bay from the
bombers and losses were taken by fighters from both sides.
The Flak barrages were innefective against the bombers rolling
very low every time.
Victory:
US bombing: 6 VPs
US enemies shot down: 8 VPs (4 D.520 + 4 109-G)
US TOTAL= 14 VPs
Bulgarian enemies shot down: 20 VPs (4 B-24 + 4 P-38)
Scenario TOTAL: -6 VPs; --> Bulgarian Victory [Perceived Victory
Level: Bulgarian, the 4 Bombers downed on Turn 2 doomed the US]
Recommendations: None

I agree that the moment you start to score those big numbers of
victories against Liberators the Bulgarians pretty much win.
