Scenario: Royal Bulgarian Air Force.
Version: v0.1.
Playtesters: Scott Spencer(Solo).
Report: Due to the proximity of both sides the fighting began
immediately. Lead P-38 escorts split one squadron - I held the
2nd split back for the trailing squadrons just in case, which
ended up being not needed. Lead D520 squadron also split. I
had hoped the D520s could take on the lead B-24s and escorts but
they were not up to the task and I had to use the trailing
Me109s to assist. The Bulgarians had a hard time getting kills
- there were 3 P-38 and 1 B-24 stragglers at the end of the
fight. The Bulgarians did manage to break both lead B-24
squadrons but were all broken in turn. The trailing B-24
squadrons and remaining P-38 squadron, which rolled poorly on
tallies, were untouched. Barrage Fire from flak scored 2 hits
but had no effect. Overall the US had better dice rolling which
made the difference.
Victory: US - 6VP from bombing, 5 fighter kills(3 D520s and 2
Me109s) = 11VP. Bulgarians - 2 P38 kills = 3VP. 8VP = American
Victory. Felt like - American victory, though at the same time,
stopping half of an enemy bombing force from hitting a target
would probably be considered a pretty good result by most.
Recommendations: If the Bulgarians had turned a couple of
stragglers into kills we'd have a draw. I think this is pretty
good as is, though you could maybe juice the Bulgarians slightly
by adding another Veteran. Maybe mandate that it go to a D520
squadron.

Okay, I'll add in both recommendations. I'll adjust the victory
levels slightly, though I suspect some of the game may hinge on
the Bulgarian ability to knock down one or more B-24s.

Now that I thought about it, another slight way you could boost
the Bulgarians would be to allow direct fire by the heavy flak
batteries. That would give them a 1 in 6 chance of getting an
outright kill on the bombers from a hit.

I suspect that would make flak dominate the scenario. Lets see
how your tweaks affect a second run.

Scenario: L17 Royal Bulgarian Air Force.
Version: v0.2.
Playtester: Scott Spencer(solo).
Report: The lead B-24 squadrons and P-38 escort again absorbed
the entire Bulgarian effort. Knowing that the D520s were going
for head-on attacks, the P-38 escort was rolling for tallies.
The veteran D520 broke right away on a bad cohesion roll. The
Bulgarians were getting hits but again failed to convert them to
kills. The trailing B-24s bombed unmolested and provided 6 of
the 7 bombing VPs.
Victory: Bulgarians downed two P-38s for 3VP. US downed two
Me109s and one D520 and had two intact B-24s and one disrupted
B-24 bombed the target for a total of 10VPs. +7VP American
Victory. Felt Like: American Victory.
Recommendations: The D520s are overmatched against the P-38s.
Maybe move the P-38s back a square to columns A-B and E-F? That
may allow the Bulgarians to sneak in a unmolested head on
attack. Or maybe tweak the victory conditions another point or
two. Bulgarian rolling has not been good when it counts, and
I'd like to see what they'd do with some better rolling. I'll
give it another shot.

Roger, do you want to test that with your set-up change? See if
it makes a difference?

I will move the escorts back and re-test.

Scenario: L17 Royal Bulgarian Air force
Version: v0.3
Playtester: Scott Spencer(solo)
Report: Put both veteran markers on lead P-38 escorts and split
both once they tallied. Bulgarian Experte put with veteran
Me109 squadron. Tried moving the P-38 escorts back one hex but
it did not make any difference. Spotting was still easy for
them with veteran and large formation tally bonuses. The D520s
once again were absorbed by the leading B-24 and P-38 squadrons
but they were able to break one B-24 squadron. Cohesion rolls
for the D520s were terrible as usual. The big difference this
time around were the Me109s, especially the veteran/Experte
squadron which was able to get some big kills. Overall, two
B-24 squadrons were broken. Flak had no impact.
Victory: US - 6VP for bombing plus 8VP for fighter kills(5
D520, 3 Me109) = 14VP. Bulgars - 12VP for kills(6 P-38, 1
B-24). +2VP Bulgarian Victory. Felt like: Bulgarian victory.
Recommendations: I think this is Beta ready. It just needs some
repetition to see if the victory levels need any further fine
tuning. If the Bulgarians get some decent rolls it is
competitive.

That's great, Scott. Useful data. I suspect this leans against
the Bulgarians right now and may need further tweaks, but it's
good to know it is competitive.
I'm going to get someone else to look at this now. Can you
please move onto L13 Rikko?
