v0.2

I have trouble believing I've played the same scenario as
Gordon, and I strongly suspect there is some modified setup or
something they have used without it getting into the official
version.
The Bf109s weren't entirely successful in tying up the escorts
and the first wave of Me 410s had to contend with 2 Mustang
flights interfering with their attacks. The relief mustangs
immediately declared return to base and the first suadron was
able to engage in combat already by turn 3, the rest turn 4. The
Mustangs easily dogfight the Me 410s, especially with altitude
advantage, and of the relatively few attacks the Germans got in
against the bombers, most were with negative combat mods. The
result was a massacre, and not in the right way:
Germans: 3 bombers, 4 Mustangs: 13
Allies: Exit: 45, 19 Me 410, 6 Bf 109: 79,5
TOTAL: -66,5
Comment: Obviously either I'm doing something wrong, or
something clever Gordon & Andrew didn't think of, or I'm not
playing the same setup. I saw reference of the Allies not
needing 4 P51Ds, but there are 4 in the setup. Further, maybe
their placement is closer than they played. Also, maybe the team
didn't think of contrails which makes tallying the Me410s at a
distance dead easy for the relief Mustangs, regardless of my use
of return to base to increase speed.

I suspect I missed the changes in the first playing. Let me go
back and take another look. If I missed reducing the P-51D
contingent I may have to trim this.

Okay, I did miss some stuff in Gordon's playtest report, so I'm
making the following changes:
- Remove the contrails
- Reduce the Relief Force to two squadrons
- Have the Relief Force enter turn 3
- Add a special rule clarifying that the Relief Force is
sweeping toward the friendly map edge

Just to be clear, I did have them sweep towards the friendly map
edge. I just switched to return to base to givve them full 3 MP
and be able to change altitude.

Is RTB prior to contacting the enemy something we want to
prevent?

We coud always solve that by having the relief appear within
tally distance.

v0.3

This play was skewed somewhat by the Me 410s rolling 4 on every
single good shot they had. There were something like 6 4:s
rolled. Nevertheless, I feel the flow of the scenario isn't
right. The escorts easily shrug off the BF109s and quickly
engage the 410s that have to struggle to get good odds and soon
end up in dogfights. This time the relief force arrived when the
party was ending and had little effect, but it felt like the
escorts didn't need much help. The score speaks for itself.
Germans: 6 bombers, 7 Mustangs: 25
US: Exit: 42, 10 Bf109, 18 Me410: 79
Total: -50
MASSIVE US WIN
Putting veterans in the Bf109s would probably help them tie up
the escorts, but green 410s won't make much impression against
the bombers I suspect.
Comment: I still feel like I'm playing a different scenario than
the previous team. Going with what I have, I would reduce the
escorts to three squadrons, Reduce the US veterans to 3, limit
the escorts to 1 veteran. Increase the relief force to 3
squadrons, give them a split limit and have them enter 2 columns
closer.

Do we still want the P-51Bs to have tac flex and a split limit?

I think so, but I'm unsure if it should be dropped to 2. We'll
se, in my experience, non veteran flights are not a big
advantage to have.
