Scenario: L20 Operation Arcturus.
Version: v0.1
Playtester: Scott Spencer(solo).
Report: Put Vets and Experte with all 3 Fw 190 squadrons. I
split 2 of the 3 Fw 190 squadrons upon tally, maxing out the
counter limit. The Veteran 190 flights were quite resilient,
while the Yak-9M squadrons were rather brittle. German
firepower coupled with Experte was lethal as was the massed
barrage fire from the Flak. 2 Pe-2 squadrons were broken by
flak and fighters and had their bomb runs aborted.
Victory: German - 29 Kills(9 Yaks, 5 IL-2Ms, 12 Pe-2s, and 3
A-20Gs) = 44 VPs. Soviet - 9 Kills, 8 hits on AUX 1a, 2 hits on
Aux 1b, 2 hits on Aux 2, and 2 hits on Heavy Flak A = 29 VPS.
-15VPs = German Victory. Felt like Massive German victory.
Recommendations: This one can probably be thrown out as an
outlier. I'll do better on my next go around with my bombing
choices for the Soviets as that could redress the balance
somewhat. Not ready to suggest any changes just yet, but it
sure seems the German fighters are just a bit too strong at the
moment.

Question on the IL-2Ms - can I arm them with rockets? That
would give them a bit more juice for their suppression efforts.

There's nothing to stop the IL-2s kitting out with ATGR. If that
becomes the preferred tactic we can add a gameplay advice note
on that.

So, some thoughts. The first is to add split limits, as much of
the force is already split. The second is to majorly downgrade
the Veterancy of the 190 force. We might even throw in some
greenness here.

Yes that is what I'm leaning towards. The veteran 190 flights
were very hard to break and easily outlasted the Yak 9s.

I've now dropped the number of veterans, so let's see how that
works out.

Scenario: L20 Operation Arcturus.
Version: v0.2.
Playtester: Scott Spencer(solo).
Report: I did not split the 3 German squadrons(was not sure if
the 4 split limit applied to the flights on the board already).
The Yak-9Ms suffered terribly again, losing 16 fighters and only
downing 3 FW 190s. However they did their job and largely kept
the 190s away from the bombers - only 3 Pe-2s were downed. The
Flak barrage downed 3 IL-2Ms and 2 A-20Gs. The IL-2Ms used
rockets and guns and scored 10 hits on the Aux 2 and a strafe
hit on the 2nd AUX 1. The A-20G squadron scored 4 hits on the
first AUX1. The Pe-2s rolled poorly on their steep angle bomb
attacks and scored no hits which cost the Russians the game.
I'd also note that German cohesion rolls were rather poor.
Victory: Russian - 4VP(190s four kills) plus 14VP(AUX 2 ten
hits) Plus 7VP(AUX 1 four hits) plus 1VP(AUX 1 one hit) = 26VP.
German - 16VP(Yaks) plus 6VP(Pe-2s) plus 4VP(A-20G) plus
3VP(IL-2M) = 29VP. Final Score -3 German victory. Felt Like:
Draw.
Recommendations: Arming the IL-2Ms with Rockets is the way to
go. If the Pe-2s had rolled average on bombing we'd have a
draw. I think a few more plays to see how this shakes out would
be helpful.

Okay, I'm going to adjust the draw window on this down a little
to aid the Soviets, but also break up the German forces somewhat
to try and force the issue of splits on the forwardmost Fw 190s,
and ease the way in which German strength is fed into the
battle. Can you please give this one another run with the
changes I'm posting later today?
