Falcons Countersheet Assets
By: pilotofficerprune Date: November 24, 2019, 4:32 am

Though this is Falcons-related, I am posting this separately
from the main thread to track a particular thing: a list of
those counters I’d like to add to Falcons that are not required
for Falcons scenarios, but support either scenarios in other
games/expansions or expand the counter manifest in useful ways.
Note that this does not include counter suggestions in the
longlist.
? x I-15 sqn in Soviet scheme
? x Me 210 in German scheme (only one such counter at present)
3 x He 111E sqn in German scheme (the Czech scenario O08
requires these)
? x Blenheim Mk.IV sqns in RAF scheme (the only Blenheim
squadrons at present are Mk.Is)
? x SM.81 sqn in Italian (RA) scheme (no Italian SM.81s at
present)
2 x P-51D USAAF scheme (to resolve the ID overlap with the B-17
squadrons in scenario S20) [this could in theory be shunted to
the Supremacy 2e reprint]
Also:
Bf 109F and G desert scheme
Bf 109F and G winter scheme
More Yak-1, Yak-7, Yak-9, La-5FN winter scheme
Furthermore:
1 x BR.20 in Japanese scheme
SBD in late-war USN scheme?
TBF in mid- and late-war scheme

Off the top of my head I'd say some Soviet Spitfire Mk. V
counters might be worth adding. Bergstrom's Kuban/Kursk book is
coming out in 2020 and it will hopefully fill in that niche.
Some more B-24s would be useful as well.

For the Italians perhaps a Dewoitine 520 counter in RA markings
and ANR Me.109s.

While I'm on a roll here is some more:
Hungary: Ju-88, Me-109F-4, CR.42, and Re.2000(Italian-built and
Hungarian-built Heja II).
Croatia: Me-109F-4.

The campaign will require dedicated Ju 87G counters.

Speaking of Ju-87s, Hungary used some as well.

According to my estimates we are going to have maybe 80 counters
(and probably just under) available for use. Now, note that we
have demands on these counters from other places:
(1) Campaign. I've assessed scenario needs but not campaign
needs yet.
(2) Surface targets. It's possible that the scenarios or
campaign might demand new or extra surface target counters. Once
we have a final scenario list we will need to fine toothcomb
them to make sure we have all the surface target counters we
need.
(3) Digital downloads. Once we have the final scenario list I
want to assemble a list of those shelved scenarios that we want
to set aside as ones that we might develop later and release as
digital downloads. This might gobble up a chunk of counter
capacity.
(4) Wanna-haves. This is just stuff I want to see, even if we
don't necessarily have scenarios for them.
Of the wanna-haves some are actually needs, such as the He 111Es
we did not add to Origins. Some are strong wants, because I
think it's likely we will use them in future. Other wanna-haves
are weaker. I want to check our capacity before we get too deep
into these.

Okay, so now we have a near-final list of scenarios I've been
able to look at the countersheet assets and perform an initial
pass. I've posted a copy of the spreadsheet to the Falcons
folder on dropbox.
This list contains:
* Assets for the 21 + 6 Falcons scenarios (book and digital
download)
* Assets for the Kursk Campaign (final list to be confirmed)
* Assets to deconflict the Origins Malta campaign (basically,
more MC.202s)
* More desert/Med Spits for the Origins Malta campaign
* A handful of assets that I simply wanted to have
This currently comes to 140 counters out of 180, giving us
another 40 counter slots to assign.
Now, before we run wild, let me say that I'm cautious of just
adding lots of Hungarian and Bulgarian squadrons just because
they existed. What I'd like to prioritise is stuff that players
can use, or that is more likely to appear in future scenarios.
For example:
Late war TBD and SBD schemes
More winter schemes for Bf 109F, Bf 109G, LaGG-3, Yak-1, Yak-7
More desert schemes for Bf 109F, Hurricane
Yank Spits
Then there's the whole business of those aircraft that have few
counters but could do with more. Where is the countersheet
stressed?
(Note that the two extra P-51D squadrons needed for Scenario S20
could be hived off to a future Supremacy reprint)

The A-17 in US colours and as the Northrop Nomad Mk 1 in
Canadian service are possibilities, though they don't seem to
have seen combat use. The Dutch A-17:s did. And the Peruvian :-)

I'm just throwing things against the wall, figuring most won't
stick. Croatians would be a neat addition though, with a single
Me-109F and/or G squadron. Neat looking schemes.
