20 sounds about right. Figure 8 scenarios for new ADCs and a
dozen for new counter variants.
Another consideration is that Origins actually had a lot
of smaller scenarios. These are easier to find time to test than
medium or large scenarios.
This is true. And it is not all about the number of counters
either. Splitting, how close they start and if there is bombing
matters too. There are some big scenarios that are over in 4
turns that play quickly too.

So, when we close down Origins testing we will have been testing
for 42 weeks, which means many of you have been playing the game
weekly for most of the year. I think it will be good to rest up
a bit before we move on to Falcons.
So, before we go ahead and start sifting through scenarios for
Falcons and whittling them down to an acceptable number, I have
to ask: what is that number? Is it 26? is it smaller? I ask this
because my original 'skinny module' idea was to limit to just 18
scenarios, or roughly 18-19 pages in a 24 page book.

Been thinking this question over. Are we reaching a consensus on
about 20 scenarios and a skinny campaign? That seems sensible to
me, in terms of testing workload and as a product.
Regarding resting up, I'll be doing that perforce. The music
season has started, and I've done three gigs in the last three
weeks with another this weekend. Then in December the calendar
goes nuts, when I have I don't know how many commitments with
three different ensembles. After the first of the year, though,
the pace will be closer to one gig a month, so I'll be able to
settle down and churn scenarios. Ellen thinks she'll have more
time for playtesting than she did the past spring and summer. So
we're on board to help with the this expansion, though we will
seem stealthy during December.

No problem, Dave.
I don't know the number of scenarios yet, but yes, the campaign
will be a short one (playable in just four scenarios) and the
number of scenarios may well be in the low twenties.
That said, when we start looking at the mass of submissions who
knows where we will end up? You'd think as the designer I get to
play dictator and have precisely what I want, and yet it never
seems to work that way. The end package always ends up somewhere
other where I was expecting it to go. It gets steered somehow
when you guys pitch in.
Anyway, this is definitely a good time to take a break. There is
another week of proofing on Origins and I'll be asking for a bit
more test on one scenario, but basically we are days from
uploading this to GMT.

I am ambivalent about size. There is quite a bit of interesting
looking material, but I would very much agree with others views
that scenario quality when we get down to playing them is
probably the key feature. I suspect Andrew and I can continue
to jog along at pretty much the established pace. Looking back
it looks like we have managed 65 to 70 plays in the last year
(we had 4 runs through the campaign at 5 or 6 scenarios each on
top of the individual scenario tests). Accepting that it
probably takes between 3 and 4 runs at most scenarios to
generate reasonable quality testing I guess that implies we are
going to be able to test around 20 Scenarios meaningfully over
the course of 10 to 12 months.
Cheers
