Victories second edition and Eagles publication
By: pilotofficerprune Date: February 5, 2019, 12:47 am
---------------------------------------------------------
This is a very brief post, but I wanted to let you guys know
that GMT have been in touch and are talking about producing
Victories second edition and Eagles in April.
Please do not talk about this in public yet.
I still have a bunch of details to sort out with Mark and Tony
at GMT, which I want to agree with them before going public. I
have 99% of the work done, but this will be a distraction for me
for a while.
For most of you this means no change. Please keep testing
Origins as you are doing. However, I will need a few of you to
help me with important tasks.
(1) Note that the second edition rules, player aids and ADCs for
these games will, in the coming weeks, be locked down. I'll give
you lock-down dates when I have them.
(2) I'll be asking, Vincent, Rick and Karl (and anyone else who
wants to help) proof the final rules, books, ADCs and player
aids. Rick was also going to do a pass on the index. More
information on those tasks when I have them.
(3) I'll be asking Elias to do a test run on the Victories
scenarios Malta Recce and Nemesis, just to sign off on these.
There may be some other odd tasks as well.
Please stay posted for further announcements, but please keep
this under your hat for now. I'll go public once have all the
information, so I can make a final shilling effort to the
public.

Oh, one thing: GMT wanted to publish Victories and Eagles
together with Origins, not realising that Origins has only just
got into test, and we won't have it ready until the late summer
or autumn at the earliest.
I've told them this, but I'm waiting for them to get back to me.
Hopefully it's not a dealbreaker, but there's a small chance
they might decide to push the production date back so as to
gang-print the lot.

So it looks like everything is on. I have to deliver the files
by first week of April, so we have about seven weeks to do the
final proofing, prep the files and send to GMT. There may be
some all-hands-on-deck proofing required.
But first, let me organise myself. This weekend I want to prep
the latest version of the rulebook, ready for proofing.

Yay!
I'm currently halfway through a proofing of the background
section of the whole ADC collection, should be done by the end
of the week; but I'm standing by for further instructions.

Vincent, I've sent a mail to you and Rick to discuss
coordination of the proofing over the next seven weeks. I want
to get this done using both of you as efficiently and
effectively as possible.
One big task ahead of us is Rick's rules reindexing effort,
which I hope he can start as soon as I've updated the rules this
weekend. Once he's done this I'll need you to check it.

Okay, I'm assessing candidate art for the covers of the
Victories 2e rulebook, the scenario book and the Eagles book.
Sadly, Antonis doesn't have a lot of stuff that's 'free'--in
other words not licensed to another publisher. He does a lot of
magazine and box art work that is exclusive to those publishers
and I can't touch.
So the following is the most appropriate stuff that is
available.
For the Victories rulebook and scenario book:
One for Jim

Spitfire Alley -

Evening Victory -

Time For Heroes -

Yellow 4 -

The Few -

Easy Prey -

A few of these aren't quite right. I think there's at least one
cannon-armed Spit in a Battle of Britain scene, but they are
still nice enough that most folk won't notice or care.
For the Eagles cover:

I like One for Jim for Victories. For Eagles, Jet Hunter is less
generic. It is a fair representation of Rocket Men.

Well, if you're tallying votes, my preference for the Eagles
cover would be Jet Hunter, hands down. But we already have a
P-51 on the cover of Supremacy, so you might want something else
for variety...
For Victories, I very much like One for Jim. The Few is good
also I think, and depicts an *Allied* plane going down, for
once. (I checked all the Wing Leader covers up to now and
there's definitely a trend going on. ;) ) Easy Prey could do,
too.
Just my opinion, of course.

Don't forget we need two images for Victories. One for the
rulebook and one for the scenario book.
