Elite Squad [Antagonist]
By: Joshua Date: June 23, 2012, 9:59 am
---------------------------------------------------------
( I've got to go in about ten minutes, so I'll make this quick.
I had the idea that we could make a squad of elites so we can
switch the flavour of the episodes up a bit. And, with all due
respect towards Quinn and Nicola who probably haven't the
slightest clue what a covenant is, it'd be good to see what
makes up the "Covenant", who operates within them, how the
elites are treated as within their ranks, that type of deal.
Plus, if we stick with the five of us, it's going to get mighty
static and rigid pretty early on. )
Let me throw out the ideas I had for a squad -
- Thrall [Black; Spec Ops; Assassin] cold, unforgiving, knows
his way around an energy blade- and your throat.
- Uato [Dark Blue; Ranger; Engineer] creative, deadly, most
open minded on the squad- most open about humans.
- Nithos [Gold; General; Squad Leader] big, burly, and
incredibly accurate- please don't get close to him.
- Valu'um [Purple; Ultra; Heavy Weapons] manipulative,
religious, all around zealous- hatred for humans multiplied.
- Krato [White; Minor; Footsoldier] effective, skilled, and
stronger than a spartan- not to be downplayed.
Or, alternately, we could have this group of elites branch off
and operate "above the scenes", holding views conflicting with
the covenant. And, in this light, are definitely more open
minded towards humanity. Instead of hating humans, reflecting on
how they've been designed to hate humans, the ethics on
destroying another race, their religion, their personal views on
the "great journey", etc. This insight might provide more depth
to the character development of this squad- maybe, each
individual elite could possess their own traits, views, and
thoughts.
Attached is a voice file I have of a friend who created an elite
voice for me, and when we need to, we can always create our own.
I have a pretty decent voice for an elite, once touched up quite
a bit on audacity, and I'm sure Jess will have the necessary
vocal chords to submit her own. Daniel will always have the
capacity to voice elites too, which would probably only leave
the one other elite to be voiced. This shouldn't be a problem, I
can always play around with the settings to get a slightly
different sounding voice for this elite, or if needs really be,
ask my father or somebody equally as masculine to take a role.
[EDIT: Will host later, not enough time.]
I'd have included a female elite here, but sticking with general
sanghellian canon, I don't think they allow their females to
become warriors. Sorry girls.
Anyway, what do you guys think? Thoughts? Good or bad idea?
Let's get something to discuss here as we continue to work
slowly but surely onto restoring life into this dusty old
project. <3

Yay! Activity.
Okay, first off, I have to point out the silly thing. 'Knows
your way around your throat' Sounds like he's not the most
accurate with the blade.
Secondly, I like this idea, having a named elite squad being the
main antagonist. It just.. works. The ones we clash with the
most, but always stalemate against. I actually really like the
idea...
But, there is a problem I think we've neglected to think about.
What game are we recording this on? Reach? or H4? Because that
does have some significance, as the game, and what we'll have to
work with for elites will be vastly different, I believe. Just
saying, maybe you/me/Dan should discuss this?

I'm also in favor of this idea, but I don't quite think that
they should be the main antagonists outright. I think they
should be our enemies in the beginning, but when they undergo
character development, they could split up into allies and true
villains. And then the two teams join forces against a greater
evil and learn the true meaning of friendship. Or something like
that. That's how these things go, right? Right? No? They still
want to slit our throats? Well.
I don't mind your decision with gender-canon, but if Jess can
sound like a plausible female, I doubt Nicky and I would have
much trouble with the voicing should you need it.

I'm with Quinn~ I like having a specific squad after us at the
beginning, but I also really like something more evil than them
showing up later on, the bigger bad that makes the series darker
and edgier as we get deeper into it. I think it'd be kind of
cool if we stumbled across some sort of mystery alluding to what
it is, and we change our team objective (which is what exactly
at the beginning, 'cause I don't know?) to figuring out what the
deal behind this thing is, because whatever we found, we know
that it alludes to the possibility of something amazingly
dangerous, and it takes priority over a couple elites chasing
after us.
Also, yeah, I think Quinn and I could voice dudes without too
much trouble. I've got kind of a deep voice, anyway, so adding
effects in Audacity should help even more. *thumbs-up*
Quinn knows how awesome my deep man voice is from that
one phone conversation we had. XD /brick'd
But, ah, the way you talk about the elites it sounds like
they're going to be talking about a lot of psychological stuff
throughout their appearances, like the reasons for their
existence, and ethics and challenging the norms and all that
stuff. I mean, that isn't a bad thing, I just feel like they
should only start getting into that stuff later so as to keep
the series lighter in the beginning, getting into the deeper
stuff as we get deeper into the plot. And maybe as they begin to
ponder these things later, it will spur, as Quinn said, the
whole openness and splitting up into the definite two sides.
Also I think it would be best not to overwhelm viewers or
ourselves right away with a whole bunch of super heavy content.
Also, at this point, I kinda feel like their squad is more
compelling than our own group, because they're all on the path
to discover the meaning of life and we're all just derping
around trying to survive and kill them and stuff? I know you
didn't say anything to the contrary and we haven't really
figured this part out yet, but I guess I'm just adding that they
should have more reason to be after us than "they're elites" and
us having more reason to fight back than "they're elites and
they're trying to kill us". And we need a bit more reason for
being the good guys than "we're humans so we're more relate-able
characters plus we have the power of friendship and hey they
started it". Like, a noble cause to fight for, I guess besides
just survival? Not necessarily a big giant grand purpose, but
maybe specific or personal reasons at least, or something
related to our mission? And we should have an important mission
and stuff, like an actual objective we're running towards rather
than away from, which I guess kind of just loops back to the
first paragraph. But I guess that'll come more with when we make
a plot.
And, question, is there some reason the elites are after us?
Both a general and a specific question, I guess. It kinda sounds
like elites in general hate humans, so that's why they're after
humans in general, right? I don't really know why that is, so if
someone could explain that, that'd be super. Also, why is this
squad specifically after our team specifically?
This is all just kinda a brain dump, and I don't know completely
what it is we're dealing with while talking about with these
elites, so I guess don't take all of these comments too too much
to heart, but still kind of, if that makes sense. But yeah,
that's pretty much everything I'm thinking of right now as far
as villains are concerned. =w=

Paragraphs four and five were just asking the same question over
and over. XD
I know you didn't say anything to the
contrary and we haven't really figured this part out yet, but I
guess I'm just adding that they should have more reason to be

I know you're right, but the problem here is that there really
isn't a plausible reason other than "they're elites and they're
trying to kill us". The Covenant (which is a giant military
alliance of space aliens) is at war with the humans, so the two
groups would naturally attack each other on sight. And then we'd
probably do something to REALLY tick each other off: we might
trap them in a cave, they might fatally injure one of our
teammates, etc.
I guess their mission (or our mission) could be to kill the
other team because we're/they're dangerous... but that seems
like a pretty small mission for such a big, bad team.

I uploaded the elite voice files to a 4shared account you should
all be able to access. I think we should use this to transfer
files quicker and between everybody rather than sending to
individuals over email.
I'm a little tired now so my response will be quick. Going to
save our objective / goal / McGuffin / mission talk for a
separate thread, this one is for the Elite Faction, so let's
keep the conversation focused on them.
I think it'd be rather neat if we weren't involved in some
super-deep and complex conflict for tooth and nail straight away
or anything. Infact, y'know what I think? They're a recon team.
As much as we're studying them and their super weird alien
culture bs, they're studying us. And we don't realise until we
stumble upon them somehow- and, when their secrecy is
compromised and their intents revealed, we're all pushed into
conflict. And, after an unresolved stalemate, both sides slink
away in neither retreat nor mercy, leaving the pending question
for both teams wondering if they're going to be attacked every
day.
Provides a little bit more context for rivalry, then
arch-enemies, don't you think?
Here's also a little bit of context as Cola so kindly requested.
The Covenant is an assortment of alien races united under one
religion; this religion, heralded by an alien race named as the
Prophets, believe in a "Great Journey" ; the alien equivalent of
Christianity's belief in Christ's "Second Coming" (perhaps?).
This Great Journey is initiated by activating "Halo" - an
installation of seven rings floating in the universe that
trigger a weapon - a canon of mass destruction that wipes out
all organic life in the known universe. The prophets do not know
of this, but are under the delusion that activating Halo will
bring their faith to ascension - when it will infact kill them
and everybody else.
Halo was actually designed to kill off every organic thing in
the universe by an ancient race of aliens pre-dating humans and
the covenant called the "Forerunners". These were a highly
advanced people with technology far exceeding ours and even the
covenants. The forerunners were wiped out by a parasitic alien
race known as the "Flood". The flood infect any organic thing
indiscriminate of species and transform it as their own. The
forerunners, even with their incredibly advanced technology,
stood no chance against the parasite and created Halo as a last
resort against the Flood.
It didn't work, and the Forerunners are long gone - but the Food
still exist.
More on topic, the Elites are an alien race that make up a large
militant portion of the covenant. As a military they are trained
to despise humans - who they believe impede the Great Journey
and stop at nothing to wipe out. It's not just a hate, it's a
zealous crusade against abhorrent human behaviour. However, due
to certain events in canon story, the elites realise they've
been lied to and around the events of Halo 3 start working with
the humans against the prophet and the covenant. That's pretty
much all there is.
I like the idea of their being a main "Elite army" station post
nearby, and also a (nearly discovered to us) "Human army"
station post.
idk sleepy ideas guys. C'mon, discuss.

Canon Nazi'ing Josh.
The prophets, or at least the last of the three 'Main' Prophets,
the Prophet of Truth, had actually been aware that the Halo
Array would kill off everything, and decided to go ahead with it
anyway, because he was still deluded from this religion he had
been following, and heading for countless years.
The Forerunners were not wiped out by the Flood, they were
backed into a corner, and used their WMD and Last Resort, The
Halo Array. Triggering this, killed all of the Forerunners, and
wiped out the vast majority of the universe, save for races that
were saved and protected from the firing of the Array in 'Shield
Worlds.' However, even without food, the Flood lived on, in the
Rings of the Halo Array, as samples. The Covenant, upon finding
one of the rings, 'Installation 04', they were idiots, and
released the Flood on the Ring.... I'm getting carried away.
The reason Elites are out to wipe out Humanity, is because
Humans are basically direct descendants from the Forerunners,
and on the scanners' the prophets were using to find Forerunner
artifacts, Humans showed up, and Human populated planets would
glow white hot for ancient forerunner activity. So, they
thought, "Forerunner stuff! They must be guarding it. KILL THEM
ALL.". So, all in all, the war was kind of a huge
misunderstanding, but, by the time anyone knew this, it was
basically over.
ANYWAY.
I'm not too sure where to stand overall on how we should be
facing them. I personally prefer them being kind of rivals. We
clash with them fairly often, not constantly, lay hits, maybe
make one of the other guys have to take a few days off from a
good shot. But never being able to land a fatality.

Alrighty, then. I feel that their relationship with us is pretty
