Improving your Skype connection and call quality

Everybody is a liar on the internet…
I have read and agree to the terms and conditions.
Yes tick it quickly and move on
If you are using Skype then you must have agreed to these terms,
but how many of you actually read them. If you really want to
waste some of your remaining time on this planet then Google
them and have a look through the 11000 + words. But if you do
nothing else then have a look at section 5.2 (copied below)
5.2 Use of Your Equipment: The Internet Communications Software
may use the processing capabilities, memory and bandwidth of the
computer (or other applicable device) you are using, for the
limited purpose of facilitating the communication and
establishing the connection between Internet Communications
Software users. If your use of the Internet Communications
Software is dependent upon the use of a processor and bandwidth
owned or controlled by a third party, you acknowledge and agree
that your licence to use the Internet Communications Software is
subject to you obtaining consent from the relevant third party
for such use. You represent and warrant that by accepting these
Terms, you have obtained such consent.
This means that Skype can use your computer to re-route calls
and messages to other users, it uses some of your Bandwidth
(your up & download speed).
Skype does not have central servers that are used to route the
calls, when you make a call the system looks at all available
routes to the destination computer and makes the connection via
many (even hundreds) of other users computers and what are
called Super nodes. Super nodes are generally places like
Universities but if your computer stays connected to Skype for a
long enough period then it is still possible for you to become a
super node .
So, how can you improve your Skype connection.
1.
running all day.
2.
to shut it down via the system tray and wait 20secs before
restarting to make your call.
3.
that uses a proxy server eg Expat shield.
4.
5.
LimeWire Vuze etc. is completely turned off. Don’t just close
the window; close it completely in the system tray.
6.
left click ADVANCED then CONNECTION. On the right side of the
window take the tick out of the box next to “Use port 80 and 443
as alternatives for incoming connections.
