A question for them that know.. 8)
In the discussions on Friday you was saying about the internet
strength etc, do I recall you saying as more and more people use
the internet the signal would get weaker, this making things
like the Smart TV not very good if viewing via the
internet.....and if known what about things like Skyboxe5
.....(dream box I think or something like) that you subscribe to
and again view through the internet..
Food for thought for the future... :-\
       Thank you. Dennis.

Dennis, some of the answer was covered here
  HTML http://acc.createaforum.com/general-discussion/isp/msg140/#msg140
but a bit more explanation might help,
In general day to day use as you send and receive emails, search
google, open a web page etc you just use the connection for
short bursts, when you click the page you want your request goes
up the line and the page is returned, after that there is very
little activity whilst you sit and read the page/email.
Sometimes you have to wait a few seconds for the email to go or
       for the page to load.
Now according to the BBC’s figures a High quality live streaming
program on Iplayer (1500Kbps) = 600-640MB per hour. Now this
1500Kbps is below your lets say your contracted speed of 3mbps
(3000Kbps) so all should work fine. But let’s assume half of the
people receiving the signal are on the same mast as you and they
all start streaming programs, so if 100 people/connections X
1500Kbps (1.5mbps) = 150mbps which is the capacity of the mast.
With 100 people streaming they as individuals would not really
see any problems, but as soon as you come to view a web page or
download your email you will seem to wait an eternity for some
       action.
The answer will be that ISP’s will limit access to some IP
addresses, if people then try to negate this by VPN’s or proxy
servers then they will still be seen as high end data users and
could find their connection throttled (nobody will admit to this
by the way), but look what happens at the club, one user
downloads a film and takes all the bandwidth and everybody else
waits to even load the Google home page.
These restrictions can be seen at present with some mobile
operators who give “unlimited” internet access but restrict
connections to Skype or VOIP services because of the amount of
       data transferred.
All the figures given here are purely for example purposes, with
the exception of the figures from the BBC which can be found on
       the net.
So it does not matter what you use, laptop with proxy or VPN,
Smart TV if its connected to the internet then there will
probably be a problem later in the year when thousands of others
       start doing the same thing.
