How do i get a € or £ sign in my document

The other day someone, cannot remember who, asked "How do i get
a pound sign into my document as i have a Spanish keyboard"?.
Well here's the answer, plus a load more that that you might
       find useful.
Please note there is a picture in the download version for those
who are not sure where on the keyboard these keys are located
Your keyboard may have some different markings or even be a
different language but the two items you are interested in for
the purposes of this instruction are the Numeric keys, on a
laptop these maybe above the normal Qwerty keys and the ALT key.
Always bottom left next to the SPACE BAR and marked ALT. Do not
confuse this with the ALT GR key on the other side of the Space
       Bar, this has other purposes.
So to enter a ™ symbol for example hold down the ALT key and
type 0163 on the numeric keys. As you release the Alt key the
numbers you typed will disappear and be replaced by the item in
       the list below.
       To get this

Sorry the layout is a bit screwed up but formatting and aligning
text inside these forums is always difficult (well for me
       anyway).
Having read and understood this, your next task, "should you
choose to accept it Jim" is to find the "Any Key". You remember
it, the box comes up on the screen and says" Press any key to
       continue"

It was not I who asked this question, but I´m pleased that
someone did. Very useful, I have printed it off, thanks Geoff.

Does that work on a qwerty?

It works on keyboards with separate numeric keypads easily, it
works on Laptop when the number keys are integrated into the
       keys 8 9 0 I O P J K L (or which ever they are on your make and
model of laptop), of course you have to turn the number lock on
       first.
It does not work when trying to use the numbers keys above the
qwerty keyboard, so to answer your question it does work on
qwerty keyboards but only if they have integrated number keys on
certain letters or a separate numeric keypad.
