Do you sometimes need to use Skype on someone elses computer or
in an internet café. Are you concerned about leaving any of your
data on these machines, then create a portable copy that you
keep on a Memory stick.
To create a portable copy of Skype on an empty Memory stick /
Flash Drive / Thumb drive:
1) Copy Skype.exe from an existing Windows installation. Any
recent version will work. You will usually find this in the
following location C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype
2) Unzip StartSkype.exe from the attached file in this post and
inside you will find a file called StartSkype.exe, copy this to
the Memory stick.
3) Create an empty folder called Data on the Memory stick.
In summary, the Memory stick should contain:
Data (a folder)
Skype.exe
StartSkype.exe
To use Skype on someone else’s computer, or in an Internet café,
insert the Memory stick and open it to view the files. Double
click on the StartSkype.exe file and sign in.
When you are finished, close and exit skype and remove the
memory stick. No traces of your calls, data, passwords, login
name etc will be left on the computer.
