Clan Rank System

We are going for a merit system with personality as its
governing factor. In other words, you do stuff to help others
and you're genuinely polite and nice about doing it---all
without causing/fueling drama. Your actions are witnessed by
your clan-mates and they forward nominations to admins, which
are then reviewed by the entire admin staff and ultimately
decided upon by Wysdm. Saying again for clarity: if your
personality is foul or mean-spirited, your good deeds amount to
nothing.
3 categories best describe what clan-mates can be nominated in:
Chat, Community, and Citadel. They also have 'grades' in them,
like a scale that shows least effort to most. Sometimes the
efforts are just different shades of the same color. These "3 Cs
of Clue" aren't meant to list all things, just common actions.
Chat: Your attitude and behavior in the clan chat. Do you talk
to others? Do you try to answer questions? Are your answers a
quick, casual quip? Do you research and give detailed answers?
Do you meet them in-game to show them where to go? Are your
answers 100% correct, and if you are proved wrong or realized
you've erred, are you humble about it and go make corrections?
Citadel: This will never be mandatory, but do you still
volunteer to help? Do you maintain an honest 3 star fealty
(which doesn't require capping fully)? Do you cap all the way
without being asked? Our citadel overseer promotes mates to
skill in what plots they want xp in, but do you still get
resources even if you have high skill or 99 in it? Do you
attempt to work with the Upkeep Team, Regulars, or Cleanup Crew?
Community: What else do you do that helps Clue? Do you share
your projects with others, make them feel wanted, included? Do
you come up with ideas for or run clan events? Do you recruit
people to be invited by admins? Do you offer to assist admins in
management? Do you come up with original ideas for Clue?
A 4th minor category is how long you've been in Clue. We wish to
avoid appearing unappreciative to someone who has, for example,
been here 24 months by keeping them at 2 Banana. But time alone
will not give you a free ride for rank ups. What is vastly more
important is what you do with that time spent and how your
attitude reflects on your deeds.
Next factor is Frequency: how often a month are you nominated
for actions as described above by the three Cs of Clue? Citadel
is easiest to recognize: it's a weekly thing. But Chat is
practically a daily one. Community might not be so obviously
seen in one month (or week), and a person's actions in Community
category may take time to have a noticeable contribution. To
this end, perhaps frequency should be weighted differently for
each category, with its impact on a nomination being least in
Chat and most in Community.
Grading: So how often do you need to 'make grade' in the
categories for each rank between 1 Banana (recruit) and Gold
Star (General)? It's been suggested that you cannot advance up
the full ladder to Gold Star just by one category alone. Soon,
grades in one category won't be enough to be ranked up, so
branching out is a better idea. Going the whole way often in one
category would get you Bronze Star (Lieutenant) at best. Taking
the logic further, perhaps Silver Star would require high grades
in 2 categories and Gold Star would require 3.
These are just ideas to start with. However, I advocate that
Gold Stars don't naturally graduate to the Admin rank. While I
do feel Silver Star plus are a good place to start looking for
new admins, it must be a conscious decision on their part to
become a servant of Clue.
I also advocate an 'apprentice and master' approach for new
Admins; being taken under the wing of a suitable Admin plus to
be trained.
So, you've got high grades in all 3 categories, but how do you
become an Admin? All good deeds aside, the personality
determines whether or not adminship should be given.
Perhaps admins plus should strive to be the staunch servants of
this clan, not its "rulers" as some would see in military clans.
In this highly social, family-orientated, and harmony-promoting
clan, those with actual Jagex-permitted power are supposed to
always look to Clue's harmony, stability, and growth.
-The admins, as leader figures, are supposed to accept all good
ideas from clan-mates (regardless of their rank) and use them to
refine Clue.
-The admins are supposed to shy away from input that goes
against the established grain of what makes Clue the kind of
clan that it is.
-The admins are human and will make mistakes, but it is in those
heated moments that an admin proves whether or not they really
ought to be one.
Some people think Clue is a social clan, that we don't need
ranking, rules, etc. Wrong stereotype. In Clue, people put
effort into things and they are rewarded for it--all the while
having fun and enjoying the game. We strive to give mates enough
rope to swing freely with us, but also hang themselves if
they're bad.
Star Ranks: If you're a Star, you should be semi-reliable when
asked about Clue. You should be able to answer questions and at
least refer people to Admins when they are online. Gold Stars
should be very good at this while Bronze Stars might not be that
social if their Chat grades are low.
Admins: They know the rules, don't cause/fuel drama, are social,
and easy to reach if input is needed. They also specialize in
whatever suits their personalities best, but are still capable
of doing other things even if they don't like it. We should NOT
use Job Descriptions to distinguish different Admins--all should
be avatar warden in case they need to do that duty.
Specialties: running avatar, chat moderation (peacekeeping),
reporting (with screenshots), inviting recruits, answering
questions, guiding people to places/things. In short, serving
everyone in Clue who is grateful and respectful.
Admins can kick clan-mates (up to 2 a day) no matter what. Only
the permission box to 'able to kick guests' is changeable. In
any case, all kickings should be screenshoted and reported to
the Organizers plus and, if the admins want, they can let them
do the kicking.
However, perhaps we ought to show trust in our admins and let
them kick people if they think the situation warrants it. If
Admins are forced to have to err on the side of caution every
time, then it may build an unnecessary dependency on Organizers
plus to kick. Perhaps some people want to feel secure knowing
that, if away, Admins will take care of Clue, even if it means
kicking people whom infractions would be pointless to give.
Note: From here on out, higher ranks do the same thing as
Admins, but spend their time more in their particular duties.
Organizers plus should be able to rely on Admins to assist them
both by taking care of the littler things, but also in their
rank-prescribed activities (like clan events). However,
Organizers plus can accept anyone's help in Clue, regardless of
their rank, if they're willing to help. Lastly, Admins should
file reports at the Report Desk (on Skype), and if they can't,
they can either ask another Admin to do it OR ... they should be
able to 100% rely on Organizers plus to put the report in. This
means Organizers plus need to be available out of game and
online.
Organizers: Perhaps Organizers should spend more time on coming
up with, refining, and managing clan events. They can be bossing
or skilling events, but they don't have to be. Mini-games,
whether by Jagex or player-made, are welcomed, too. Organizers
should be on the lookout for mates who need clannies to help
them do something, but need people to start it. It's ridiculous
to be unable to do this and yet be in a clan. Lastly, Organizers
are the people to talk to if someone has an idea for a clan
event but doesn't know how to do it to it.
Coordinators: Perhaps Coordinators are partners to Organizers,
not necessarily a higher rank. But instead of events, perhaps
Coordinators should focus on helping people learn how to skill,
make money, do quests, and be efficient. All of which helps
unlock more content for them, which means great synergy. Because
then Organizers can include them in clan events as well as
design more clan events since more of the clan has access to
that area/content. What should make Coordinators stand out over
just anyone helping people already do this? Well, Coordinators
would focus on low level mates, especially if they're new
recruits, welcome to the clan, and get them on a training
regime.
Overseers: If admins are groundskeepers, help desk, and guards,
and organizers are the party planners, and coordinators are
exercise coaches... then overseers plus are Internal Affairs
agents. As in, they are to Ads, Orgs, and Coords what they are
to Gold Stars and below. When they're not dealing with admin
plus issues, they focus on core elements of Clue to make them
run proper. The most obvious example is the Clan Citadel, which
is maintained by the citadel overseer and those providing help.
Another example is the Clan Bank. Forum mastery could be
another. There could be others, but even if an overseer doesn't
have a core element to focus on, it is their experience and
maturity that lets them be good advisers to Ads, Orgs, and
Coords.
Wysdm will address questions about co deputies and owner rank.
