History: River was born on a ship, the USS Salvation. She was
born to her mother, Celeste and her father, Saul. She was their
only child and while they cherished her, they had never actually
intended to have children. She was the result of the Phase, and
it had changed many things. At the time of the pregnancy,
Celeste was the Chief of Medical and her father was the first
officer of the ship on which they served. Both were highly busy
and tended to be on just about every away mission the Salvation
crew embarked on. Which made life a bit more dangerous than
your average. However, once River came into the mix, things had
to change. Someone had to take care of their daughter.
Celeste decided then, to step down as Chief of Medical, and to
allow someone else to take that roll so that she could remain on
the ship more frequently. That way their daughter would not
grow up alone. River was a bright girl and enjoyed her life on
the ship. She never felt that she went without, though she
loved getting to explore planets and different destinations when
she could. Her family went on a lot of vacations when the ship
was on leave.
As River grew up she went on her own path, she neither fell in
love with engines nor did she want to be a Medical Doctor like
her mother. She wanted to do her own thing. She was rather
taken with the body, and how things worked. She loved learning
not only about humans and her own race but also others. She
threw herself into the Science department as often as she could
and found herself under the wing of one of the Science officers
who thankfully didn't mind children. Angela Weathers was a
woman that didn't mind taking her and helping train her as much
as she could and encouraged her dreams to join Starfleet.
When she was fifteen her mother died. It was during one of
their many missions. The ship was over run by an alien force
that had never been seen. As Security and other personnel
fought hard to take back the ship, the aliens ended up finding
themselves in various parts of the ship, killing those that they
could. Eager to take the ship for themselves. Her mother was
one such casualty. Sickbay was one of the hardest hit places
and her mother was shot in the middle of duty. River mourned
her mother's death for a very long time. She was lucky, that
she had lived. She had been in the school room with other
starfleet children at the time. They had been told to hide and
luckily, no one had found the children.
When she came of age, she quickly applied to Starfleet and
entered the Academy. Eager to be just like her parents, so
that she could enjoy her life.

River watched as the shuttle disembarked from the Starbase. The
docking clamps retracted, loud clangs against the hull as they
released and the shuttle began it's trek to the ship where she
had been assigned. The Academy was not hard, it was challenging
but that was someting she had appreciated. Not only had she the
hope of making her parents proud but she also wanted to make
something of herself. She was a greenie, and she knew that it
would take a while before she could reach something more than
being a lowly ensign. Though, she would work hard and she would
make a name for herself.
The flight to the ship was largely uneventful. She had took to
reading on her PADD instead of socializing. She supposed that
this would have been the perfect opportunity to make sure that
she could have at least one friend on board. But, she had found
herself a bit more shy than she was used to. So, instead she
decided to read. Mostly, she was left alone, people could read
the body language of a woman that didn't truly want to be
bothered. Though that didn't stop the playboys from asking
regardless.
Finally, the shimmering lights in the distance outside the port
window caught the young woman's attention. Tucking her dark
hair behind her ear, she leaned forward to the window a little
bit more, looking up at the massive breathtakingly beautiful
behemoth that was about to be her home. It's so lovely. The
next leg of my journey. My home. she thought to herself, as she
pulled back and carefully tucked her PADD in with the rest of
her belongings. Finally, her black eyes shifted around the
shuttle to see the others. Some were sleeping, others were
gathering their things, a couple in the back were making out and
possibly shagging though it was hard to tell. Whatever it was,
they were highly dedicated to it.
She chewed on her lower lip and locked eyes with a blue eyed man
across the isle from her. he gave her a nervous smile, and she
returned it as she pulled her bag into her lap and waited for
them to dock. She felt the transition into the shuttle bay of
the larger ship. A bit of a bump as the shuttle sat down on the
deck plating, and gravity changed to that of the ship versus
that of the shuttle. Quietly they were instructed to unstrap
and file out. She rose, with the others, and hoisted her bag on
her shoulder. It was time to get to work. Time to make a name
for herself. River Bellgrave.

Hey River Bellgrave,
After reading your application, we would love to accept you into
the fleet as an Ensign on the USS Valor!
As seen in our help files, you can see that all of our new
members start at either rank Ensign or Crewman depending on
whether you picked the enlisted route or not. Both courses are
as rewarding as each other but also challenging at the same
time. This will allow us to test your knowledge through them but
also your writing skills too, both of which are important to
have.
You may find out more information about the fleet at the help
files
HTML http://8thfleet.createaforum.com/help-file-development/
section.
This section should help you with any questions on promotion
too.
Unless you have any questions, please report to Captain Joshua
Shepard and the Executive Officer, Commander John Brown. If you
have any questions at any point in time, feel free to message
these guys or any of the admins. 8)
