training, no real combat, unless you count bar brawls." He
smirked as he recalled the last one. "I trained a little with
MACO's. I have 90% accuracy with a rifle, 97% accuracy with a
hand phaser, and second degree certification in the Vulcan art
of Suus Mahna."

Josh chuckled at the bar fight comment. "You? A Vulcan in a
bar fight? I wish i could've seen that." Josh then patted his
shoulder. "Well i would like to say that you'll never see
combat, but this is a star ship so you never know. Remember
what they always said in the academy? Expect the the unexpected.
Ok so you have pretty good ratings. Well let's see how you do
with actual squad coming under fire. Well I'm gonna give it
another few minutes to see if anyone else joins up, then we'll
have some fun."

"I'm only part Vulcan," Elihu said truthfully, though he would
not divulge that he was only one-quarter Vulcan. "So I heard you
two were brothers?" He indicated the Klingon with a nod.
"Adopted or step-brothers, if you don't mind my asking?"

Josh looked at his brother. "Adopted is such a harsh word i
think. Let's just say we're not blood related but we are in
fact the closest brothers possible. We've been through so much
together, we've shed blood together, mourned for the same
comrades, we might not look it but we've taken on each other's
culture to make each other safe and secure. He and i would not
only die for each other but for the rest of the crew if needed
to save them."

"Commendable," said Elihu. He turned toward the location of the
entrance, suddenly lost in thought.
Coincidentally, he had a half-brother called Isaiah Shepherd who
was ten years younger than the 26-year-old ensign. He missed him
considerably, as well as his half-sister, best friend, and a
couple others that he tried to put out of his mind. A ship's
counselor did not have the privilege of being overly emotional
when he had so many others to take care of.
"Do you think we've waited long enough?" he asked the tactical
officer.

Josh nodded his head. "Yeah i think so. Computer begin
program, level four."
The holodeck then came to life with more soliders and more
noise. The holographic troops started to come near Josh, KnodwI
and Elihu. "Ok listen up, enemy forces are roughly ten
kilometers away. They don't know we're here so we have the
element of suprise. We need a recon team, snipers, and a team
of commandos. Our mission is to secure prisoners, and gather
Intel and vehicles for another mission. Does anyone have any
questions or anything else they want to add?"

Shaking his head, Elihu only added, "Obviously I'll be on the
recon team."
He'd not intended for his remark to sound presumptuous or
insubordinate, though it may have come across that way. As a
whole, the Atlantis crew was unaware that he was part Betazoid,
and so he considered that perhaps it was not as "obvious" as he
thought. However, he assumed that the security officers would
already know that he probably had less aptitude for storming a
fortress or taking lives at a distance, than for sneaking
around, detecting enemies before they detected him, and
disarming them, both physically and emotionally.
He clarified, "I mean, I believe my abilities would be best put
to use on the recon team, Sir."

Josh heard Elihu's voice. "Actually no, you'll be coming with
me and KnodwI on the commando team. Yeah this is supposed to be
fun but this is also a training tool for everyone...well real.
We're going to move in silent, hand signals until our cover is
broken. Any one can fire a phaser, or sneak around. It takes
guts, and team work to make sure the objective is completed and
we all come out together. You can do this, i know you can.
You need to trust yourself and is as well. There may come a
time when this won't be a holo program and you'll be needed."

Elihu considered what Shepard had said. He had made a very valid
point: this was training and it made no sense to send Elihu on
the recon team since he was already good at that. He did,
however, require training in actual combat. He nodded in
agreement to the Lieutenant's final statements.
"Understood, Sir," he answered with a ready smile.
Elihu double-checked his phaser rifle and awaited his trainer's
next order.

Josh patted Elihu's back. "Relax, you'll do just fine." Josh
then stepped up to make the announcement. " Recon team, you're
gonna scout the area around the perimeter. I want the number of
sentry guards, guard towers, a detailed list of where entrance
points are, vehicles, i know they may change but i at least
need a list to know what we're up against. Types of weapons
they're using, once they return the sniper teams will split off
into two man teams to cover the north, South, east and west.
Recon will be assigned to the snipers to call out vital
information, and the commando team once we determine a entry
point we will go in silent, whisper talk only or use hand
signals. I'll lead red squad with Elihu. KnodwI will lead black
squad. Red squad will gather the vehicles we need, and black
squad will gather the Intel. If any member is seperated from
their group remain where you are, call out your last location
to the sniper team and they can direct you towards your team
members or be told it's not clear and told to remain where you
are. Does anyone have any questions.?"

M'Konel shook his head in response to the lieutenant's last
question. He thought back on his previous combat training; he'd
only been in a simulation like this twice before, and both times
he was thankful the safety protocols were active. Since he'd
shown up after Shepard started the program, he was unsure if
they were active here, though he assumed they were.
Gripping his rifle tightly, Elihu awaited Shepard's order to
move out with abated breath. He knew he had to remember that
these were holograms and his Betazoid empathy would be useless.
He'd have to rely on intuition and his better-than-average
Vulcan hearing and sight.
