Maria turned to face the Captain and took a breathe.
"Sir, may I recommend that we get a closer look at the metallic
mass? It could be something or nothing, but getting large masses
of metal in an asteroid field is uncommon." She said hoping that
he agreed as it would be interesting to find out. She then
added. "I wouldn't recommend getting too close because the
asteroids could potentially damage the ship." She finished after
giving her full report.

Anderson listened to the exchange between science and ops,
before the conversation took a turn towards himself from Maria.
Obviously the Chief Science officer felt it necessary to point
out the mass, in her own words it was uncommon to see such an
occurrence. John thought for a moment about the ships orders, in
light of the recent troubles on Andoria, the likelihood of
undesirables causing trouble had doubled. Their relative
location was well within striking range of supply routes, used
by civilian and Starfleet ships.
"Very well Lieutenant." The Captain said standing up and moving
to the view screen and turning about. "Helm get the coordinates
from ops or science and take us there at one half impulse, but
do not penetrate the asteroid field."

"Yes Captain requesting the coordinates now " Maura replied her
hands moving quickly over the console as she sent the request,
once she received them then she would take the ship in as
requested stopping at the edge of the Asteroid Field. She
remembered when the Dark Phoenix had suffered damage as a
result of being forced into an Asteroid Field and certainly
wasn't going to let the Churchill suffer the same problems.

and then continued to watch the readings for if anything changed
and to wait to see the results of the object.

A beep from her console alerted Maura to the incoming
information from the Science station and immediately set a
course on one half impulse, moving the controls with ease as she
brought the ship about to its new destination. " Co ordinates
received and laid in, one half impulse , E.T.A to the edge of
the Asteroid Field seven minutes".

7 Minutes Later
John had stayed at the viewer as the ship moved its position, it
didn't take long to spot the metallic object mixed amongst the
rock. Anderson squinted his eyes and tried to focus on the
object, it was rectangular shaped and definitely not a random
piece of metal. The Captain turned and face the ops officer and
science in turn. "Can either of you tell what it is? Is it a
ship or station or....something?"

Main Engineering
Howell had been in engineering since the start of his shift. It
was good to be back on a starship, there was nothing quite like
it. He had been reviewing and correcting systems all shift to
get them to work how he wished. Just as was going to perform
some alignment checks on the navigation system a red light
appeared on the terminal he was at, accompanied by a distinct
sound. It was a Master Warning and one that Dan had not seen
since the academy. It was warning him that something was causing
a massive fluctuation in the gravity field of the ship, causing
the gravity generators to work at a dangerously increased level.
Bringing up and reading the sensors, he saw an object in front
of the ship that was giving out huge gravitational readings. Not
understanding these readings, or what the object was, he decided
to report immediately to the bridge in search of answers
Bridge
Arriving a few moments later on the bridge, he didn't even
bother going to the engineering station and instead reported
directly to the Captain. Standing to attention, he said
"Captain, I don't know what that object is in front of the ship,
but it is giving out huge gravitational readings that are
constantly fluctuating, it had caused the ships gravitational
generators to work at a dangerously high level to keep the field
stable." He finished, handing the Captain a PADD with
information on the object and the generators.

John turned towards the Chief Engineer as he approached, he
didn't know the Chief too well, but that was something he hoped
to change at some point. Taking the PADD and listening to the
report verbally, Anderson looked up towards Lieutenant B'Ozian.
"Lieutenant did you say something about distortion on the
sensors?"

modified the sensors to compensate for Magnetic interference,
still not perfect but from the readings I can confirm the mass
appears to be a ship and I am also detecting 8 life signs, Maybe
Lieutenant Dyson can confirm the species".
He continued to work on the interference trying to clear it up
as he again looked over to the helm officer "Ensign are you
expeiencing any issues with the deflector ?" Magnetic
interference could possibly reduce the effectivness of the dish
and have disasterous effects giving their location.

"Understood Lieutenant." John replied turning to Howell. "I'm no
Engineer, but could those magnetic forces be what's causing the
problem?" He asked moving to the side of the ops station. "Mr
B'Ozian try hailing them and Ensign Stewart..." He said looking
towards the helm. "Just to be on the safe side, reverse engines
and back us off."
