USS Essex - Over Cardassia Prime
The Final Minutes of the Dominion War
The severely damaged hulk of the once powerful and veteran
starship, tossed and spun as gravitational pull reached up to
the stricken vessel. The Essex had been part of the 5th Fleet,
during its attack on the Cardassian homeworld. The tides of the
war had shifted in favour of the Federation, the Cardassian's
had seemingly seen the light and took up arms against their
former allies. The timing could not have been better, for the
Cardassians or the Federation, it was at that point a make or
break situation.
The Essex had moved on an attack run with its wing of starships,
their job was to engage the orbital platforms in orbit of
Cardassia. Several of the energy weapons were destroyed, but
alas for the Essex it wasn't enough. One of the yellow/gold beam
had struck and sheered off the aft end of the starboard nacelle.
That had resulted in a cascade failure and complete loss of the
ships propulsion systems. A second hit from one of the platforms
had penetrated the port side of the saucer and made the ship
roll and fall at the same time.
Bridge
It was a miracle that the inertial dampeners were still online,
however it did nothing for the impending collision with
Cardassia's atmosphere. The bridge was filled with acrid smoke
and the stench of fried circuitry and burnt flesh. The klaxons
roused one of the officers on the bridge, Commander John
Anderson, a member of Advanced Tactical Team Alpha Six. The
Essex had collected John's team from a classified location, well
most of the team and then answered the call from Fleet command
to join Fleet Five. Anderson lifted up his head and looked
around to get his bearings, he'd been stood next to the Captain
of the vessel, when the ship was hit and disabled. At that point
he was laid beside the helm and pressed hard against the deck.
Taking a quick look around, he could see a few of the bridge
crew, all were in various stages of hurt. The Captain was laid
in front of his chair and didn't show any sign of movement.
Scrambling to aid the man, John rolled Captain Darcy onto his
back and found that the only thing he could do for him was
mourn. But that would have to wait for later, the Captain had a
piece of jagged metal protruding from his left temple and his
hazel eyes were fixed to one side. Anderson didn't need to be a
Doctor to diagnose death, he'd seen plenty of that in his
career, most of it over the course of the current war.
"Can anyone hear me?" He asked in his soft well spoken British
accent.

Bridge-Essex
John was standing behind the Command Chair he being Master Cheif
Petty Officer and COB of the Alpha Division we chose to serve
with Alpha Six and his friend John Anderson but when the attack
happened he was thrown into the back wall of the Bridge he could
feel the pain of his head. Brown started looking around seeing
the after math and the the sight was of pure horror he could see
dead Officer's laying all around.
"I....I am here" Brown gruffed as he looked around gathering his
barings as he pulled himself off the deck he looked down seeing
a cut on his sleeve from a peice of bulkhead "Dammit and I just
put on a new Uniform" John stated as he looked towards John
Anderson for Orders

Anderson recognised the voice of the Master Chief and his
friend, there was a feeling of gratitude for that at least.
However neither of them could possibly know what was about to
happen and there victory over death could well have been short
lived.
"Master Chief." Was all the Commander offered at that moment.
The unmistakable metallic groan made its presence known, a first
year Cadet would what that meant. "The hull's buckling, I'm
guessing the structural integrity field is offline." A pop
followed in quick succession with a shower of sparks lit up the
bridge briefly, John looked around and once again observed the
twisted consoles and carnage. "Like just about everything else."
As he looked around the bridge, Anderson noticed the helm was
flickering in and out of life. The consoles operator was not on
station, which was hardly surprising, so without further adieu
the Commander dropped into the seat. Running his fingers over
the various instruments, he called for any active forms of
propulsion. "This isn't good...we're falling towards Cardassia
with no propulsion."
On the Anderson tapped the intercom.
=/\=This is the bridge, to any.....anyone, please respond.=/\=

Engineering - Essex
Klaxons sounded all through engineering as alarm after alarm
went off and steam and smoke vented throughout the department,
Christian looked up from the console squinting as the blood ran
into his left eye from the cut on his forehead. A quick glance
around the area and at the readouts told the engineer all he
needed to know and he was about to hail the ,captain when an
unfamiliar voice came over the com. He slowly tapped his badge
and began to speak =/\= Engineering to the bridge, Sir there is
not a lot that can be done with the engines, I recommend we
jettison the warp core and get out while we can, please advise
the Captain than Commander Errikson is dead, I will try to buy
us some time but I don't know how long we have left =/\=.
With that he turned and made his way to the core and opened the
console trying to find a way to stabilise the core long enough
for the crew or what was left of it to get clear.

[Bridge]
Jasmine had just made it to the Bridge when the hail came
through.
"I'm here Commander." She informed then making her way over to
the Ops Station.
The Chief of Operations was leaning back in the seat with burns
smothering her face.
=/\=Medical Emergancy on the Bridge.=/\= Jasmine reported as she
felt her mentors weak pulse.
With the Ops Station wrecked, Jasmine went to one of the
secondary consoles and brought the information up on the screen.

Jasmine overheard the report from Engineering and then turned to
the Commander.
"Commander I wouldn't recommend we abandon ship with all of the
debris... We're better off staying aboard... Our best chance is
splitting the ship for a smoother landing." She said then
turning back to the console.

Essex - Bridge
John listened to the two officers as they spoke, the idea of
abandoning the ship at first sounded like the right idea. That
was until the young ops officer spoke out, the idea of getting
into an escape pod and then slamming into a piece of junk metal
was not appealing. One thing confused the Commander though and
his lack of Engineering knowledge manifested itself.
"Split the ship? Is that even possible with these old things?."
He cleared his throat and swallowed the sharp taste of plastic
fumed smoke. "I thought only galaxy classes could do that, or
those experimental one?" The other class name eluded John at
that point, but he was referring to the Prometheus class.

Jasmine stayed looking at the console screen and noticed the
unusual pattern of debris.
"All ships since the old Constitution Class, have been able to
separate in cases of emergency. Also, the ship is spinning out
of control, so we will have to get the ship to straighten up
before separation." She finished then watching the screen
carefully. "We're about to go into so..."
Jasmine was cut off as the ship plummeted into a chunk of metal.
"We're going to have to separate soon or we're going to hit the
atmosphere." She said pulling herself back to her feet.

John nodded as he took in the information from Jasmine, it
proved be something of an education. In all honesty it made
sense for such an ability, at least it did to the Commander.
"Ok then, how do we get the ship to separate and what can we do
to stabilise her?"

Engineering
As he worked Christian listened to the conversation on the
bridge over the open comm line, when he heard Ensign Rey sat
about the ship spinning he immediately knew she was right and
the life boats wouldn't have a chance, saucer seperation would
need to be timed correctly but first the issue of drive needing
a fix =/\= I can't guarantee this sir but I would say I can get
some power to the thrusters and we have about a three minute
burn left in the Impulse engines =/\=.
The whole engine room seemed to be looking to him for guidance,
"Nolan, Jackson and Lincoln I want you three to get up to the
release room and stand by for orders to initiate seperation".
Yet again he wiped the blood away from his eyes and called over
the Bolian engineer "Give me a hand here I want the thrusters to
give us everything they have got left".
His mind slipped back briefly to his last shore leave and the
thought of never seeing earth again worried him even though he
had never called Earth home.

John headed over to the Tactical Station he pulled up all the
current status of the Weapons knowing that the Hull it self was
breaking apart he looked forward at the broken Bridge.
"Seeing this Saucer Separation is a thing; I think I might be
able to get a few Shield Generators operating for a short amount
time but ca'nt promise anything the Weapons array is scrammed"
Finished John reporting to Commander Anderson "Even if were
successfully able to seperate there is one small problem we
still have the issue with the remainder of the orbital platforms
and the debris" John Finished
