Kelvan - Reporting In (13 August 2016)
DIR By: lhommedev

Character Details
Character Name: Kelvan
Character Age: 37
Character DOB: 25 December 2338
Character Image:
Character Species: Vulcan
Gender: Male
Character Family:
T'Umi, Roboticist, Daystrom Research Institute (DRI)
Varok, Lead Process Engineer, Raal Dilithium Refinery, Vulcan
Character Bio:
Kelvan was born pre-maturely on the starship USS-Resolution
while his mother was on transit to attend a robotics conference
on Earth. He grew up spending his time split between Vulcan and
DRI, although he favoured his time spent with his mother.
Kelvan barely survived Kahs-wan, leading his father to believe
that he wasn't 'logical' enough to flourish as a Vulcan. This
treatment of indifference has led to a rift between the duo.
Despite his mother's encouragement, Kelvan chose not to join the
Science Academy, instead pursuing a path of self-discovery as he
ventured outside the confines of his solar system to explore.
This journey, which lasted more than 30 years, inevitably led
him to enlist in Starfleet.

"Pardon me?" Katie said.
I looked at her, observing her for a moment, deciding if she
hadn't understood or if I hadn't spoken with sufficient clarity.
The latter was unlikely as I don't recall any such occurrences
where I had mispronounced or engaged in conversation where I was
not precise.
"You Vulcans," she said. "Always with the eyebrows and
clenching of teeth."
I angled my head slightly, perturbed. Although, having known
this female human for almost a year, I shouldn't be surprised.
Her demeanor was not unusual for her species, however her
affinity towards 'alien' species was. From what I could tell,
she seemed to favor socializing with everyone else but her own
kin. This to me, was quite fascinating.
"Katie," I said. "Shall I repeat myself?"
"Oh no," she said. "I heard you the first time. I just can't
believe that you don't believe in falling in love with your
'life partner'"
"Falling in love," I said, "is not a prerequisite to
establishing a bond between two compatible individuals."
"It's just so bizarre," she said, twirling her hair. "Don't you
want to get to know a person first? Understand what they like
or don't? Figure out if they want kids or not?"
"Vulcans who are betrothed to each other are usually deemed fit
for union, including physical, mental and emotional aspects."
I had studied her since the day we first met. I suspect her
line of questioning was leading towards a topic of conversation
we should avoid for the sake of our friendship. That is, of
course, assuming we are friends. It is always difficult with
humans, their compulsiveness to deceive to maintain the
appearance of their integrity have more than one occasion put me
in a difficult position. Fortunately, I have always been able
to resolve each situation amicably without additional conflict.
This time though may prove different.
"So, if a human female had feelings for a vulcan male..."
I interjected, "I would strongly advise the female not to
indulge her feelings."
"Why?"
"Simply because the majority of vulcan males, by human
standards, would come across as... boring."
It was a weak argument. Our isolation from the rest of our
classmates, the lateness of the day and her consumption of
alcohol does not bode in my favor. It would be a gross
misconduct, and possibly a violation of trust if I had to fall
back on my last resort. A nerve pinch, although quite
undetectable, could not be the solution. I must try harder to
reason. She is a Starfleet cadet after all, a fine specimen of
human, having achieved so much in such a short span of time, and
without doubt highly receptive to logic and rationale despite
the inebriation.
She covered my palm. Then dragged herself along the bench right
up against my waist. "Kelvan," she said. "You know why I like
you?"
I didn't know how to respond.
"You aren't like all the guys I've been with," she said,
yawning. "You are always truthful, you don't play games."
I looked down and noticed her head on my shoulder. She had
curled up onto the park bench, leaning against me.
"...if only you were human," she whispered.

Hey Kelvan,
After reading your application, we would love to accept you into
the fleet as a Ensign on the USS Atlantis !
As seen in our help files, you can see that all of our new
members start at either rank Cadet I or Crewman depending on
whether you picked the enlisted route or not. Both courses are
as rewarding as each other but also challenging at the same
time. This will allow us to test your knowledge through them but
also your writing skills too, both of which are important to
have.
You may find out more information about the fleet at the help
files
HTML http://8thfleet.createaforum.com/help-file-development/
section.
This section should help you with any questions on promotion
too.
Unless you have any questions, please report to Captain Joshua
Shepard and the Executive Officer, Commander Kira Wyman. If you
have any questions at any point in time, feel free to message
these guys or any of the admins.
