Sample Post:
Alexander reached the crest of the sand dune overlooking the
encampment at the beach below and raised his hand to shield his
eyes. The stinging rays of the twin suns of Charanon VII were
murderous to his fortitude. One hundred metres uphill, through
loose sand, in this heat… he was exhausted. He had been a fool
to head out without the protective hood and cloak that went with
this off-white desert uniform. More than that, he had been a
fool to let Lieutenant Ghal goad him into storming out.
With his other hand, Alexander pinched the clingy and
sweat-soaked fabric at his chest and peeled it slowly from his
skin only to let it go again.
Between his teeth he softly cursed the Tellarite officer in
charge of this training exercise as he dropped down to both
knees and retrieved the sensory array from the rig on his back.
Manually extending each of the tripod's legs, he peered down at
the encampment and shook his head. Why had he been assigned to
set up this array? Cadets Riggs and T’Val were the science
officers, he was the away team’s only security officer on this
exercise. It made no sense for them to stay at camp and for him
to have to go and set up this device. Alexander could already
imagine how they would simply shake their heads upon his return,
claim something was out of alignment and how Ghal would simply
send him back up this dune to take care of it.
Once the array was set up, Cadet Oskin sat down on the slope
facing the camp below and the vastness of the ocean beyond, his
back towards the sun. He took a deep breath and sighed. He had
to find a way to stop people from pushing his buttons if he had
any hopes of making it through Starfleet Academy.
His hand touched the combadge, all it did was chirp its
inability to establish a connection. Then he grabbed a handful
of sand and let it trickle from between his fingers. Whatever
these granules were composed of, they had mentioned it in the
briefing but it escaped his mind, interfered with communication
beyond 50 metres. Riggs and T’Val had tinkered with this array
in an attempt to compensate. His eyes trailed from the waves
collapsing on the beach to the encampment. Canvas sheets had
been erected from the back of the Type 6 shuttle they took down
here to provide cover. He could distinguish some figures. The
desert uniforms of the cadets and the black uniform of
Lieutenant Ghal. From this distance, he could not tell what they
were doing, certainly it did not seem they were paying any
attention to him or in any way attempting to let him know
whether the array had been set up properly or not. Briefly, he
could imagine Ghal intentionally keeping Riggs and T’Val from
doing so.
Another minute or so, Oskin Alexander watched the encampment and
the ocean like that before he prepared to get back to his feet.
Just when he dug his right heel deeper into the sand, something
slithered underneath and sent him toppling back.

Hey Oskin Alexander,
After reading your application, we would love to accept you into
the fleet as an Ensign on the USS Atlantis!
As seen in our help files, you can see that all of our new
members start at either rank Cadet I or Crewman depending on
whether you picked the enlisted route or not. Both courses are
as rewarding as each other but also challenging at the same
time. This will allow us to test your knowledge through them but
also your writing skills too, both of which are important to
have.
You may find out more information about the fleet at the help
files
HTML http://8thfleet.createaforum.com/help-file-development/
section.
This section should help you with any questions on promotion
too.
Unless you have any questions, please report to Captain Joshua
Shepard and the Executive Officer, Commander Kira Wyman. If you
have any questions at any point in time, feel free to message
these guys or any of the admins.
