       Character Bio: Dan joined the academy at the age of 17, despite
       the wishes of his father who was a Starfleet Captain and also
       his mother. However, Howell joined anyway taking a Major in
       Engineering and also a Minor in Astrophysics. Dan wasn't by far
       the best in his class, but slightly more than average, which Dan
       was happy with.
       Dan graduated from the Academy and spend the best part of 5
       years aboard the U.S.S. Wellington, as an engineer. Within the
       first 2 years of his assignment to Wellington, Dan was
       re-positioned as the Assistant Chief Engineer, which Dan very
       much enjoyed. Howell, unlike many other officers on his ship,
       was never out to impress for promotion, only to do a job and
       keep the other crew members safe.
       With the outbreak of the war, Dan was re-assigned as an
       engineering officer aboard the U.S.S. Galaxy, during which he
       spent the entire war. During the war, his fathers ship was
       destroyed with all hands aboard during the battle of Betazed, in
       which Howell ship was also present. It was also during that
       battle that Dan was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal
       after he went into a section of the ship that had completely
       collapsed and was on fire in order to repair one of the
       anti-matter generators.
       Since the end of the war, Dan was granted 3 months compassionate
       leave, for the death of his father, which was delayed due to the
       war. Since returning, Howell is currently awaiting placement.
