Character Bio:
John is a native of Ketris III, where he was the younger of two
siblings. His early life didn’t destine him for Starfleet. In
fact, his original career in a dilithium mine seemed to indicate
anything but. Despite being a half-betazoid, his abilities were
never honed beyond the most basic of emotional detection. This
made him unsuited to be a counselor or any other ‘softer’
professions available in Starfleet.
At least, that’s the way it was for the first 26 years of his
life. A mine explosion changed everything. A Starfleet officer
who pulled him from the rubble inspired him to do something more
with his life. In reflection, he considered that his entire life
had largely been unproductive and dull by his own standards. It
was time to make something of himself.
His technical expertise in the mining industry made him a good
candidate for the Operations department-- much more so than he’d
originally thought possible. Though he realized that he was
older than the average applicant of Starfleet, he put his best
forward anyway.

John’s Ketrid background caused him to sleep less than most -
due to a strange quirk in the ternary system’s solar situation.
As such, going to the Academy was easier for him than most - the
strange idea of “sleep” wasn’t lost on him. But waking up
before everything else on ship was easier for his weakly trained
half-Betazoid mind. There was a certain calmness that he always
appreciated before the rest of the ship’s company awakened.
His “morning” routine usually included working on his PADD to
keep an overview of what was going on. Today, however, the
entire vessel seemed completely silent.
And that’s when he woke up from the worst nightmare he’d ever
had - the total, oppressive silence had just started to
overwhelm him and break his mind.
He hoped he’d awakened in reality this time…
He hated that nightmare.
