Advanced Squad tactics

Hey Guys, just an idear from me to us =)
I thought about making more flexibility in the squads, by
assigning not just one Squadleader - but also a nextcommanding
person in the squad - like in the real army, which i've been in
for almost 3 years, with real combat tactics from Afghanistan.
Eventuelly i thought it might be like this:
Alpha Squad:
Team 1
1a - Squadleader(SL)
2a - Private
3a - Private
4a - Private
5a - Private
6a - Private
Team 2
7a - Squadleader2 (second in charge) (SL2)
8a - Private
9a - Private
10a - Private
11a - Private
12a - Private
This still means that the SL(1a) got the primary overview of the
tactics for the group, but it also mean that a squad can split
up into 2 groups, with a leader in each team. -With a SL2(7a) it
will provide a slight help for the actual squadleader - who can
find help from the SL2 with tactic manuevers, overview, general
management, other assignments. This might mean that the squad
has a bit better tactical advantage in a smaller fight or in
parts of larger fights, where it might be nessesary to attack
from two directions with one squad.
Meanwhile we will allready here be training new squadleaders, by
putting the SL2 function in play - this will mean that before a
person can command a squad, they will allready have tried alot
of the basics and been working closely alongside another
squadleader.
Another smart thing is the callsigns for each individual in the
group 1-Alpha, 2-Alpha ect. which means we wont be using names
or pronounciations of the names, but just numbers and assigned
squads.
It might take abit of practice to run this drill, but thats one
of the fun parts =)

It might be abit to messy to apply in a computergame - but if it
works it could be awesome!
Give me your feedback ! - I crave it =)

I've tried this in game in the past, it's difficult to get right
and you need some dedicated members. The easiest way to do it is
to pick your fire teams and make a platoon with them. So six in
alpha and six in bravo, then just keep it to your fire teams.
that way each team has a spawn beacon and its own way point,
more map tools etc. It also makes managing it easier, I've found
that this particular type takes a lot of micro managing. That
means it suits a spec ops squad in a way. (much how we ran the
two fire teams last night) The downside is once you get a full
platoon it becomes hard to manage, however you can have four 6
man fire teams working together.
Don't get me wrong, this tactic definitely works. But every time
I've tried to split an alpha team in two its gotten complex real
quick, there are in game tools to help us so we should use them
:D
Biggest example of trying to split and fail was having two
Reaver formations in the same squad, had two formation leads
giving orders through the same channel and it got messy.
We will have to pick a Wednesday night and try this spec ops
idea. :D We could even have a Charlie squad dedicated to
logistics!

Hi Tumora
Thanks for taking the time to write this up! It pretty much
perfectly describes the fire team tactic (as Fitz mentioned).
This is something I am really excited about, but as Fitz
mentioned it can get complicated very quickly. We would need
the members of the squad to be experienced in following "COAT"
the 4 basic training principles we covered last night.
It will be particularly useful when trying to take a point. So
for instance Alpha squad are trying to take B point which is in
a building with a north and south entrance. Alpha squad lead
will call for Alpha 7 to take Alpha 7-12 and set up fireteam 2,
while Alpha squad lead sets up fireteam 1. We could use
teamspeak to actually have separate chats for fireteams so Alpha
7 can effectively act as a squad lead without having to use in
game chat.
When we get really good the squad could alternate quickly
between 1 single squad or 2 fireteams when the situation calls.
And our organised platoon would either be 4 squads or 8
fireteams. This has the potential to be incredibly effective in
battle as we can attack from more directions and achieve our
objectives more quickly.
Thinking of squad composition (a full topic will go up on the
forum about this!) but ideally I would like to standardise the
make up of a 8LU3 squad to the following: (There will of course
be exceptions and times when other load outs are called for)
Alpha 1 (Squad Lead) - Medic
Alpha 2 - Medic
Alpha 3 - Heavy
Alpha 4 - Heavy
Alpha 5 - Engineer
Alpha 6 - Infiltrator
Alpha 7 (Fireteam 2 Lead)- Medic
Alpha 8 - Medic
Alpha 9 - Heavy
Alpha 10 - Heavy
Alpha 11 - Heavy
Alpha 12 - Engineer
This way each fireteam is well built to have enough firepower
with the heavies, enough survivability with the medics and
enough resources with the engineers (with an infiltrator
included as they are key to a squads success) to be effective
individually and also as a full squad.
It is definitely how I would like to see the 8LU3 run
eventually, but we have to get everyone up to speed with the
basics first! ;D

In my old Outfit we also had an extra Squad with about 4-8 ppl
just for precapping, hacking terminals and scouting the enemy
but 4-8 ppl were to much just for that job.
