8LU3 – Private Training
Welcome to 8LU3, soldier. We are glad to have you aboard in the
NC’s fight to bring freedom to Auraxis.
Every 8LU3 soldier must go through Recruit training before
becoming a fully-fledged outfit member. The Recruit Training
covers the 4 key principles which define our play style and set
us apart from the typical Zerg like outfits. The 4 principles
or “COAT” as we call them are as follows:
•
•
•
•
In applying these 4 principles we become a far more effective
fighting force which allows us to combat the enemy Zergs who
would seek to take away freedom from the NC.
The training will cover the following:
Communication
The ability to communicate tactical information quickly and
accurately is essential to an outfit’s ability to win battles.
The squad or platoon must be made aware of what is going on in
the battlefield so we can then effectively counter enemy
threats.
There are two broad levels of communication state: battle coms
and relaxed coms.
•
Whilst this will not be enforced we would expect 8LU3 members to
have the common sense to not tell us about what they had for
dinner last night while we are defending a base from a max crash
with 30 seconds left on the countdown clock.
•
alerts. Anything goes here so feel free to discuss what you
like.
There are then three levels of battle communication: Proxy Chat,
Squad Chat and Platoon Chat:
•
is important to players who are near you. This includes whether
there is a small enemy force incoming or whether you need ammo.
•
is important to your squad achieving their objective. So if
Alpha squad has to destroy a Sunderer at a marked location it
should be announced over Squad Chat when that Sunderer has been
destroyed.
•
that is important to your platoon achieving their objective.
Generally only squad leads should use the platoon chat to give
updates to the platoon leader, and the platoon leader to then
give orders to the platoon.
Communication can thus be split into two main categories;
communicating information on threats and communication support
information:
•
should be used [NUMBER], [TYPE], [DIRECTION], [LANDMARK]. For
example “2 Sunderers coming from the North near B point”. It is
essential that these details are given because calling “Watch
out Sunderers” is basically useless.
•
be used [TYPE OF SUPPORT], [LOCATION]. For example “Ammo at
South Entrance to C Point”. Calling “I need Ammo” will not get
you ammo!
Finally, everyone when possible should be using the "Q" button
to spot enemies! This makes them show up on allies mini maps
which makes them a target and they are far more likely to be
taken down then.
Training:
•
Recruits will be given the opportunity to call out threats and
also call out for support and their proxy or squad will act on
those call outs.
Orders
Platoon Lead is God, Squad Leads are the hands of God and Squad
Members are the fingers of God.
All 8LU3 soldiers will follow platoon and squad lead orders
without question, though the platoon and squad leads will be
open to suggestions. Speed is crucial as we will have to react
quickly to changes in enemy movements and tactics. Any
consistent display of insubordination will result in you being
removed from the outfit.
Training:
•
friendly base. These orders will allow all new recruits to get
experience following orders that will normally be given by 8LU3
squad leads.
Awareness
Knowledge is power. And knowledge within Planetside comes from
experience and being aware of your surroundings.
All 8LU3 soldiers should play with expanded mini maps where
possible (Press “H”) and be aware of the following:
On an engagement level:
•
•
enemy to exploit
•
•
•
example)
On a battle level:
•
fighting
•
location than the other friendlies
•
spawn option
•
When you become aware of these situations information should be
communicated in proxy or to squad leads, allowing your team to
react and take advantage of these situations.
Training:
•
active battles and discussing with the squad what they see and
how they would react.
Teamwork
Together we stand, divided we fall.
We become far stronger as a unit than as individuals moving on
our own. As such 8LU3 soldiers will move together where
possible using the pointman tactic:
•
other 8LU3 members close by should “Stack up on them”
•
towards the objective
•
the sides and the flank for enemy targets
•
safe as possible to provide revives in required
•
Training:
•
to engage a Max (played by one of our experienced players). And
then again by moving using the pointman tactic to engage the
Max, this time eliminating the Max. Trainees will then be
giving the chance to act as pointman and move 8LU3 soldiers from
location to location as part of a small squad.
COAT is the foundation upon which 8LU3 will build our army and
it is expected that over time all 8LU3 soldiers will be able to
consistently apply COAT in combat.
For Freedom,
Kevin
