Gila 2.0 tank and burro top rack
By: Tmblwd Date: February 7, 2014, 1:08 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Well to add some more fodder to this site, let me introduce a
rack tank system developed to transform the already great 690
enduro into a off road touring machine. Here's the web site
www.tumbleweedadv.com. The product has been developed over a
year long effort, and is specifically aimed at increasing range
by about 110 miles and to enable soft luggage to be easily
mounted and stay off the plastics, it's constructed of tig
welded 304 stainless very durable and has been tested in the
mountains of Colorado, deserts of Oregon and forest of New
Hampshire. The weight of the system is roughly the same as the
stock muffler 18 lbs so if exchanged with a wings slip on its a
wash. When the top rack "burro" is used in conjunction with the
side racks "Gila" the cargo toting level is over 35 lbs. the
left side rack is designed to mount a Rotopak to carry that
gallon of water for desert riding or just that overnite camping.
We at tumbleweedadv will offer a 10% group discount (3 or more)
to members of this site if interested. I developed this product
as a personal endeavor to make my 690 usable for lightweight
backcountry touring, my daughter came home from college (
marketing major ) asked what I was up to, said lets make it
available for other 690 owners, so here we are! Currently
working on two more products (protos developed) now working mfg
and testing stay tuned

I do like that rack, have you contacted any retailers like
KTKtwins to see if they would like to sell any?

As a matter of fact, when my daughter and I attended the KTM
rally in steamboat this past summer, we had Ktm twins, Twisted
throttle, Black Dog etc. asking to add it to they're product
line, but I promised Kendall she could run with it. So unless
she says she wants to give it up it stays in her domain. This is
her post college apprentice ship, haha. A visiting exec from KTM
Austria spent about an hour with us each day going over the
concept! It was well received for utility and workmanship.

That's very cool, I hope she finds a lot of success, heck its on
my radar depending on what my finances look like down the road a
little. This may sound a little trivial but have you considered
a built in helmet lock? That's surprisingly one thing I miss
about my street bike. If I want to go to a local shop or take a
day trip somewhere, I always have to pack my skid lid & back
pack with me to eat, shop, or just walk a few blocks. GRRRRRRRR

Hey endo, check these out www.helmetlok.com I just leave it on
my mirror stalk and when I go in the store lock it to the
mirror. Not real secure but not a snatch and grab either I
could lock it elsewhere to the cables etc. for more security.

Hi Tumbleweed!
I looked at the site; my compliments to your daughter! I'm a
bit nervous about the idea of messing with my fuel lines. I was
hoping to read the installation instructions and saw that they
were still in development. Could you post an update when this
is done? I'd like to see what I'm getting into before I make a
decision to buy.
Thanks

Thanks 690 chick, she's done a great job on the site, actually
no lines to cut simply drop fuel pump and sandwich an adapter in
place. Good practice for when the pump fails haha. I have
written the install outline and have drawings a pix, need to do
my homework ugh!

We now have a custom lettering option that can be applied to the
Gila tank for those folks that would like to display thier
screen name or whatever slogan, customers have responded well to
this option.
We have added a utube install video to our web site
tumbleweedadv.com so check it out and see how easy the process
is.
