Are all U.S. 2015 Enduros 50 States Bikes?
By: sgomes Date: August 19, 2015, 5:07 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Can someone with a non California 2015 please take a pic of the
VIN plate and post it here?
A bit late to be asking this because a Georgia bike, I just
bought, is about to ship to me, and I would hope for some peace
of mind. Until recently, the consensus is that all of the
2015's meet every state's requirements, incl California; and,
that it will be a simple matter to register an out of state bike
here. But now, I am beginning to here some disagreement.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
       Steve

is it a brand new unregistered bike or a used bike? a used bike
has to have at least 7500 miles on it to register it in ca. or
its considered "new". new bikes need to have the CARB sticker or
stamp. its either on the frame somewhere or ive seen them
stamped into the exhaust can.... i'd check mine for you, but I'm
at work and the bike is at home.... if you're buying from a
dealer, they should know whether its a 50 state bike or not.
pretty sure they all are, I haven't heard of anyone with a 15
that doesn't have all the smog crap on their bike..

did some digging and found this... if i'm reading it correctly,
all 15 LC4 690's are to be manufactured the same, emissions
       wise.

Slap, Thank you very much for taking the time research and post
       this information.
First, I will be the second owner, but yes CA will consider it a
new bike, 43mi, and I am aware of the 7500mi issue; and, I am
prepared to submit to the inspection at the DMV, where I assume
they will confirm it has turn signals and a headlight, etc, and
also look at the inspection plate.
A couple years ago I thought I had a solid deal on an Oregon
2011 fe 570, owner confirmed it was CA legal for street use. Of
course, after driving 400 miles, it was all over in an instant.
The plate clearly read legal in CA for off road use only.
       I think the info you found is encouraging - still digesting it;
but, if it's not too inconvenient, could you please confirm the
wording on your bike's inspection plate.
Anyway, the bike left Georgia today so I'll know in a week or
       so.
Thanks again your time and effort - pretty amazing effort,
       really.

i can check it when I get home in a few hours (630-7 pst)... but
everything i'm seeing online is saying that all late model
street legal ktm's are 50 state bikes. pretty sure you're safe

Only if it is convenient. And, don't worry if it doesn't get
       done, for any reason.
I know it's silly for a 64 yr old to worry like this, but I have
a little problem...........I, er, told HER that is was a 50
states bike; and, since the bike won't be here for a week, that
will give me some time to find a just-in-case something at the
       jewlelry store.
So, actually, my life is kinda in your hands.
       Thanks again.

well, that was easy. just made a call to my sales guy and friend
at my local KTM dealer, he confirmed that all 2015 KTM 690's are
       definitely 50 state bikes.

Thanks so much. You have made my wait a far less anxious one.
Just wish it didn't take so long for the bike to get to the S.F.
       area.
       Thanks again.

Slap, I finally got the bike licensed.
The DMV verification process was quite entertaining - part
drama, part comedy, and part suspense. I think there was only
one guy who really knew his stuff, but he was using my bike as
an opportunity to train a couple others, one of which was trying
really hard to make things work, and the other who seemed
determined to fail the bike. Then there was the guy more senior
to all three who immediately declared the 690 a dirt bike only
that probably wasn't meant for the street.
Fortunately, that one guy who had an understanding of bikes and
the verification procedure returned to help educate the
trainees, clearly much to the dissatisfaction of the power
tripper who wanted to check that FAIL box. And, he deftly dealt
with the more senior guy so as not to embarass him in front of
       several of his staff.
But, three hours later, and after all the cluster ....er....play
was over, I got the approval, and left with registration and
       plate in hand.
One suggestion to others facing this daunting task, consider
taking the bike to an outlying town near hills and trails and
close to the California border. Once, I was considering bringing
in a Husaberg from Oregon, and while driving through the town of
Mt. Shasta, we stopped for gas and noticed we had lost the
license plate off our bike trailer. Fortunately, they had a DMV
office (not all towns do), so we drove over to get a new
       license.
There was NOBODY in line, yes you read that right, and it took
like five minutes to do the paperwork and get our new license.
We explained the purpose of our trip to the lady helping us, and
she told us to stop in on our way back and she will do the
verification for us. She said that being close to the border,
and in an area with a lot of dirt and dual purpose bikes, they
do a lot of this and they know exactly what to look for on the
bikes. Either way, Ca legal or not, she said it takes about 15
minutes to do the walk around and the paperwork.
Anyway, Slap I want to thank you again.
       Steve
