       Fueling at low speed
By: Etam Date: July 11, 2015, 10:13 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hi all,
Just bought a 2013 690R with 6000k's on it. I have not ridden
one before and it runs very lumpy (that chugga chugga effect is
the only way I can describe it) at low sppeeds, hates pulling a
higher gear just off the low throttle openning. Runs fine when
the revs are up but cannot believe this is how it should be.
I have put a 16 tooth on the front to make the gearing a bit
taller which has helped smooth things out a little but you
always have to be in the right gear or its not happy.
       Sound familiar to anyone?
       Any help appreciated.
       Regards
       Ed

I would think that going yo a 16 front would make it worse as it
has to rev even higher to get into the power. my 14 doesn't
make good power until 3500-4000. try going down a tooth to a
14, then you will pull harder down low . other things that will
cause issues are dirty injector, running lean/rich. so try
cleaning the injector, then look at a fuel controler, pcv or
vortex. does it have a stock muffler?

The higher gearing is just for more tarmac riding and I am quite
happy with the 16T. I think the problem must be injector
related, it just those early throttle opennings, very snatchy,
I'll have to find someone with a 690 to compare.thanks for your
       comments.

My '13 runs great all stock with Wings exhaust. Does not miss a
beat. What map selection are you using?

I have not looked at the mapping, I read it was switchable on
later models not sure if it is on the 2013.
Did you have to change anything when you put the Wings pipe on?

Mapping is changeable on the '13. Three settings: soft,
advanced, standard, poor fuel. see manual.
All I did with the Wings was 15 min. idle-in. I did do de-smog
       at the same time.

Hi, found the problem, it was the mapping. The bike was set on
2, what a difference when I set it to 1, in a word rideability.
       What setting do you use?

I have mine set on crazy monkey setting (aka #2, advanced) I
want to be able to whack the throttle and get the front wheel up
and over stuff when off road. Also gives me better engine
       breaking.

Don't like the monkey. I set mine on standard, #3.

Sugar sand here in southwest Florida. Mine stays on #2, wild
mode. The bike starts to go down and a little blip of the gas
usually sets it right back up.
