thermostat switch that kicks fan on at 190 F

I saw someone post this on facebook and thought I'd share. I
will be doing this soon. Thanks Joe.
Just want to share some info with everyone that took me a good
amount if time to find out ... Your 690 fan kicks on when your
rad temp gets to 221 F . In my option and many others it should
kick on earlier. Ktmtwins sells and upgraded thermostat switch
that kicks fan on at 190 F and they sell a ton. Their switch it
55$ + shipping . Now If you go to any advanced auto you can get
the same switch with a LIFETIME warranty for 36$ and if you
order it threw their website for store pick up you get an
additional 20% off with the code P20. My local store had one in
stock so it was way more convenient to have it right away also

I just wonder why KTM put in a high temp fan switch? I mean geez
these KTM engineers probably know more about the 690 engine then
most of us.. (me anyways lol) so whats up you think?

Apparently engine temp needs to be high enough to 'burn' off
crap and pass emissions..... something something
something..... 8)

I'll be changing my thermostat switch this weekend.....never
changed one before. I'm looking for directions on torque ? What
about sealing the threads?
thanks ::)

For me the easiest way to change it was to lay bike on its left
side, like it is taking a nap. I also used a little Teflon tape
just because I was a little nervous about relying on the small
o-ring sealing it. If you have everything close at hand when you
pull the old one out you loose very little fluid. On mine the
stock fan came on about 210 and shut off at 195 ish. Now it
comes on at 190 and shuts off at around 170. I use an infrared
temp meter but I was not very attentive after the install so my
readings are a little off but the point is it comes on and shuts
off sooner. Which is what I was after.

I bought this plug months ago and it's still sitting in my parts
bin. I wish somebody would do something about how lazy I am! ;D

I did it
HTML http://690enduro.createaforum.com/electrical/fan-thermoswitch-install/msg1471/#msg1471<br
/>and I'm glad I did. My bike runs cooler now. I don't have a
catalytic converter anymore so I don't need all that heat. I
was getting worried about shutting it down last summer before
the mod because it was reading almost all the way to the top.
Now it runs around 3/4 of the scale.
