Monterra set-up

Now that I have the Monterra, I have to set it up.
Here's what I've learned so far.
It seemed that the Garmin website really wanted me to load the
connector software for the Monterra. I would never work, it
could not find the file it was installing.
Some calls to tech support, and they said that I didn't need it
and to use the Basecamp software to load the maps.
I have the Navigator software for the traditional GPS functions,
and Birdseye for satellite imagery.
Even with no maps loaded for Birdseye (they take a lot of space)
the GPS memory was almost full - I also had a 24 topo from
before, and I think somehow that got on it as well.
No biggie I thought, it does take a micro SD card up to 64 GB.
This is where the fun starts.
The Garmin website says format the SD card as exFAT2 for over 32
GB; it didn't work for me.

More research, I found this website that says that it has to be
FAT32, even though the Garmin website says otherwise.

There's just one more little thing, the utility for Windows
won't let you format FAT32 for more than 32, so you have to
download a third party utility (I used miniaid
HTML http://www.fat-32-formatter.com

for free.
Presto; it works; now to put my maps back on.
When installing the maps through the 'map installer' garmin
application (other things such as Birdseye are on Basecamp, you
don't get to select to install to the on-board memory or the SD
card. When you exceed the onboard memory, and you have a card
installed, it automatically switches over to the card. The
Android operating system is really locked-down. I'm sure there
are hacks, but not ready to do that yet.
Hopefully this helps someone else.

Good tips, thanks. I only have a 32 gig card, so I never had to
deal with any of that.
