       1190 Adventure R
By: Rusty Shovel Date: January 8, 2014, 10:16 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Just sat on the 2014 Adventure R tonight. Seems like a great
bike. It's hard to believe that it is in the same class as the
GS1200. The GS just seems ponderous by comparison. Of course,
by comparison, the 690 is a wee-little dirt bike compared to the
       1190!

Very nice bike... I just can't get around that price... :o
Also, I just can't see taking a 500 lb bike off road. But that's
       just me!
I think I'll keep my 690 and figure out a way to get the new
       Super Duke in my garage.

       The 690 is heavy enough!

the 690 is heavy enough!!!! that's why I chose it over a true
"adventure bike. I still wanted to do some trail riding and
couldn't imagine picking up a 600 pound bike should I lay it
down. I had a hard time justifying $12,000 out the door for a
meager ONE cylinder bike too at the time. I mean that's almost
the same price for a nice litre bike!!!! But after going
through the break in period and riding my 690 I'm glad I went
       with her over something bigger.

apparently you can wheelie through 3rd gear on the 1190! :-) I
have also seen the 990's tackle the same trails as the rest of
the field on dualsport events.... some just not as graceful.
Please tell me the 690's are not that bad as a 'dirt bike'???
I'm waiting on mine to come in and plan on using it as an
'everything' bike..... trails, dualsport events, around town
etc. My old DRZ400 was 302lbs or so.

I've had my 690 for almost a month now. My worry is that I'm
going to like it better as a street bike than a 'dirt bike' ;D!
It is fun on the road; I'm taking corners with knobbies faster
than I would have on my Ninja. Today I found the under seat
       switch - it was set to 0. I put it on 3 (3 normal - 2 is
advanced 0- bad gas) and it felt like it drank some coffee!

Truck11, if you have long legs the 690 in soft throttle mode
will do well in all but the tightest and difficult trails. I'm
       still looking for that trail.
