7/23-7/29 Colorado DS Rally on COBDR
By: DaveKubler Date: June 1, 2014, 2:11 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Rusty ! Well, as I have put 21,000 miles on my first
dual sport (2012 KLR) mostly in Montana, I can tell you MT is a
super place for a dual sport. I am sure I will enjoy it even
more with the KTM :) It hopefully will be here within 2
weeks. I actually am organizing a rally in CO starting July
23rd-29th....riding the COBDR. I started it via a KLR owners
group, but alot of folk are coming on different bikes
(including myself the rally organizer...lol ). I can post some
info here... if you think a better thread for it , cool.
Here is the info for the rally : ***** Don't worry
about the ole KLR gang...... cool bunch of guys going *****
[color=orange][size=12pt]First Annual KLR 650 Owners Group rally

       **

rooms for us) BOOK EARLY !!!

Giveaway/Prizes: at meeting (only those present at meeting
       will be eligible)
       Rally Memorabilia : Hats/Tshirts/Hoodies

Stickers: $5.00 PAYPAL to davekubler@gmail.com with a note
“COBDR sticker” and I will ship one out
Route Planning/Mapping : Although it CAN be done in 5
days/nights…I am allotting 7 days for this trip. This is not a
race, if you wish…you can race ahead ! We will be following the
COBDR whenever possible. There will be alternate routes, and
everyone is free to ride and follow what ever they want. The
GROUP will follow the COBDR, and will not entertain debates
about where/which way to go. There will be plenty of maps
about, plus GPS units galore. I personally will be able to
follow via my GPS (proven method on the UTBDR) and will be happy
       to take lead if appropriate.
Camping/Hotels : The official GROUP will be planning/expecting
to be trailside camping. That does not mean we won’t be at a
campsite 1 or more nights….but I do not want to PLAN on that, be
prepared for non campsite camping. There ARE hotels that can be
found near the route. However, remember if you are planning on
using hotels, it will be YOUR job to make it back to the group
in order to ride together. We will be deciding official ‘roll
out’ times to break camp as to be able to have hotel folks be
able to coordinate how to meet up We will make efforts to make
camp in areas where meeting back up is appropriate. I will say
again, using hotels MAY cause difficulty in leaving/joining back
up with the group. We may be better suited letting the hotel
       folk ride together…
Contact Info: (good idea if we share our cells…texting when in
service will be a very good way to communicate)
FYI: As this is not a paid event, no fees collected…and no
promises of any ‘service’…..this is merely a gathering of like
minded riders. Everyone is responsible for their own safety and
security, and no-one ( ME ) but yourself can and should be held
responsible for your own misjudgments. Have fun….but know and
ride within your capabilities. I am sure there will be someone
willing to ride a slower pace.
I look forward to riding with all of you.

I won't be able to make the ride as those days coincide with my
family Vacation. That said, my SO and I will likely be up above
Taylor park on the 690 riding Jeep trails and I'd like to take
her over lily pond trail on it as well. Maybe we'll see you guys
       up there!
