       Hey Dane,
       Don't let Wild West put 10w50 in your bike. They're a KTM
       dealer, they should put 10w60 in it like KTM recommends. For
       $270, I have NO understanding of them cutting corners. Also,
       when I had mine done, they said they had lubed the chain; they
       hadn't. I know that lubing the chain isn't a big deal, but if
       they skipped that, what else did they skip?
       Be sure to ask for an itemized list of what services they
       perform. $270 is a lot of scratch for an oil change. If I had
       to do it over again, I would have done it myself. At least then
       I know everything was done.

       Rusty, Thanks for the advice, I remember reading your post.....I
       will make sure to get the itemized list and do my own inspection
       once they are done.

       Well I got the same service you did Rusty...10-50 oil which I
       questioned and was told KTM says it's okay to use. It does list
       it in the manual but "COME ON MAN"....The chain was never
       touched and this is after I had them print out the service list
       for me before they did anything. I also asked for a check list
       of what they did when I picked the bike up for my records, I
       received no such list.
       Well they won't be touching my bike again!
       I'll do my own maintenance for here forward.

       Wild West is really shooting themselves in the foot. I spoke to
       the manager after my service. He said that in the future they
       would supply an itemized list of services provided. My guess is
       that they had a hard time matching the list against the bill.
       Parts = $50
       labor, 1 hour @ $100 = $100
       Fleecing = $120
       I've decided to do this instead:

       $28 at KTMtwins:

       Cool thing is, I can rip the entire DVD onto a small tablet and
       carry the entire service manual with me on long rides.

       Time=$$$ and Piece of mind=$$$$$ x10. So, if you've got a dealer
       u absolutely trust, good luck to ya. Well I ain't met one
       myself, so I'd rather do it myself and blame myself when shit
       goes wrong. It all boils down to $ and u know they're gonna cut
       corners where they can. Be real. You would too. Buy the damn
       10-60 urself and lube the chain urself and change the tires
       urself and so on. It ain't that hard and it'll put some hair on
       yer chest. Go get it. :P

       Sounds like some of you guys have been getting some serious
       run-around on the initial servicing. I just had mine done last
       weekend and my dealer charged me $160. But the point I want to
       make is that you really really should let the dealer do it even
       if you change the oil yourself. Here's what they found: The
       rear brake return spring was busted. One of the covers was
       leaking oil because the screws weren't torqued to spec. They
       went around and checked torque on all the external screws once a
       problem was detected. They pinged all the spokes and made sure
       they're all singing the same note. (Not actually part of the
       servicing). Checked for proper chain tension and lubed it.
       Basically went over the bike with a fine-tooth comb and made
       sure it was up to spec before they gave it back to me. So if
       you're not checking all this stuff out when you get your service
       done then I recommend getting it checked out somehow.

       Sounds like you have a wonderful dealer and a mechanic who
       actually cares! You are a lucky man. My nearest dealer is over
       300 miles away.
