first ride 2014 690 video

Well, I finally traded my aging 04 450 exc in for my new 690
Friday. Promptly loaded it up and headed to Texas to ride it
with my dad and brother. Here is part of the helmet cam video
with my dad following on his xr650r.

Cool songs, nice video. I wished I could hear the bikes too.
What band is that?
I think your license plate might be doomed (like mine was)
unless you stiffen your rear shock.
I bent my plate and broke the mounting bracket while bottoming
out at Big Bend. The tire also ripped off my inspection sticker.

How old's your dad? He's lookin' good!

Thanks man. I haven't got to play with the clickers yet on the
bike. The rear feels a little soft, the forks seems really soft.
Haha. My old 450 was that way too. I'm pumped about the 690,
overall. Might even be enough to let go of my Kx 500. Then
again, I don't know. That 500 is a load of fun.
I think the first band was the hypnotunez, the second was
chewbaska, and the last was skankshot. I usually just use the
engines for my soundtrack, but for some reason dad's gopro
dumped the audio when he saved it on my thumb drive.
My dad's going to be 56 this year. He's pretty awesome.

Yeah, I got to agree, nice bit of riding guys.
I'm real glad that there are others out there that ride it like
a dirt bike instead of a using it as a luggage rack with wheels.

Thanks Mcfly. I originally wasn't even going to tag it, and just
use it dirt only. I wanted a modern ktm version of dad's 650r,
and the 690 was the closest thing still made. I don't regret it
one bit. It's a great bike in everything but big ass sand
whoops. Decided to go ahead and keep it street legal, though.
It's pretty cool getting to legally ride one of my dirt bikes to
work. Haha.
In the other thread I started, I put those single track videos
up. That's where I'm liking it more than my kx500, and even more
than the old 450 I traded in for it. It's just so smooth and
deceptively fast when the conditions are good for the
suspenders. Fast open stuff is a blast on it too, but the kx500
is equally as awesome there, and better if big g-outs or whoops
are present. If the 690 were my only bike, I'd be fine.

Funny, I had the same idea...a modern bike to replace an Xr 650.
I'm real happy with the bike as well, but nearly lost it badly
on the first ride. Yep, big deep sand whoops, and I hit them
fast. I still don't know how I rode my way out of that one!
So I swapped the forks for a set of closed cartridge jobs from a
350 Sxf. Revalved and resprung. Chucked on an Ohlins shock and
it sails across the deepest, meanest whoops with a smile on my
face every time.
And he'll, just love the service intervals!
