I just went for a 150 trail ride this past weekend and had
mapping set to 1... NO engine braking. changed it to #2....

I've had mine set to 3 (standard). I'll try out setting #2 once
I get back from Maine. (Maine's "premium" is only 91 octane).

2 felt too herky jerky to me at low speeds. Maybe I didn't give
it enough of a test but I set mine back to 3. Now you guys have
me wondering if I should try it again for a few days.

The question is "can you handle all the power with the 3
setting"? If no, why do you need more power that 2 provides.

Right up front this is known to apply to the 08-13 bikes, not
sure anyone knows about the 2014 yet as TuneECU doesn't work on
       he new system.
       08-13 USA Stock:
All OEM maps have the same fueling maps in 1, 2, 3 memory slots.
All OEM maps have a unique throttle map in 1, 2, 3 memory slots.
So changing the setting only changes the throttle map, to the
best of my knowledge there is no change to the fueling or
       ignition maps.
Setting "0" is for poor fuel and I don't know what the maps look
like in this setting as TuneECU doesn't show them.
Setting 1 (soft) only gives max 45% throttle when 100% is
       commanded.
Setting 2 (performance) gives the same % throttle as commanded
(at any RPM). So roll the grip to 1/2 of full you get 50%
       throttle, grip @ full = 100% throttle.
Setting 3 (Standard) is the stock setting and it also gives 100%
throttle when the grip is fully twisted but the settings below
full throttle are a portion of what has been asked via the grip.
So if I was clear you can see that in the soft setting (1) the
max you can get is about 1/2 throttle (which does not equate
exactly to 1/2 power). In the as delivered
setting (3) and in the performance setting (2) when asked you
get 100% throttle and as a result the same power. The only
difference is that 2 is directly proportional to the grip and 3
is not. 3 is like have a soft G2 throttle cam in place, but you
       still get 100% when WFO.
For me 2 is hopeless off-road and 3 is only OK. I will be using
       a blend of 1 & 3 as have others.
I know nothing about the 2014 but would be surprised if it is
       any different.

Thanks, that made perfect sense to me and also seemed to be
       exactly what I experienced.
