       Sidestand Fix/Mod
By: Rusty Shovel Date: May 18, 2014, 11:40 am

       Hey all,
The 2014 690's sidestand is too tall. Perhaps this is because
KTM dropped the 690 an inch in 2012, but never bothered changing
the sidestand? In any event, I was wondering what others were
       doing to correct this.
If anyone has modified their sidestand, please chime in and show
us a pic. I want to do this in the coming weeks; I feel like
       she's gonna blow over.
SingleTrackMind, over at ADV, came up with this:

It'd be nice to have the sidestand be adjustable, but I wonder
whether this is strong enough to use with a trail stand?

A terrific product, BTW. You can find them here:

I cut mine off 1" & brazed a LOD washer on. I also got a KTM
       Hard Parts foot.

I cut an inch off also, then welded a washer on, also welded a u
bolt to the kick stand as a kicking aid. I like the threaded
       bolt idea tho!

I agree that it's too long especially if you get the suspension
dialed in with proper springs as I did. I think and friend and
I cut off about 2 inches and welded on a slightly larger
diameter foot. When the bike is unladen it's nearly as vertical
as stock. However when I sit on the bike the suspension
compresses about 70mm. On flat hard surfaces it's easy to lift
up with boot by leaning right a bit. On soft or uneven surfaces
it's still sometimes difficult to kick up. A couple of times
I've had to get off the bike, kick it up, put left foot on the
peg and motor away while swinging my right leg over the seat.
In my next life I'm going to lobby for tall parents. ;D

I cajoled a welder into helping me out with my
       too-tall-sidestand.

He did a great job. I had him weld on a larger foot so I
wouldn't sink in sand. The bike leans more comfortably to the
side now. It'd take a hurricane to knock it over! ;D
FYI: see how little I cut off? Don't get too excited and
shorten the stand much more than an inch...or you may find your
bike falling the OTHER direction. I'll post a comparison shot
of the old lean angle vs. the new (coming soon.)
I've since painted it with rustoleum...it looks great.

I took about 2 inches off of mine. One inch might just do it
for those lucky enough to have 32+ inseams. Mine is about 2
inches since I lowered the bike 1 inch. A tab to hook the boot
on would be great though as I find the stand a bit close to the
chassis when deployed and hard to get purchase with my boots.

I'm going to cut mine down this week...nothing I like doing more
than plasma cutting and a little welding.
