       I just got the under tank clean & inspected it. It looks like
       the tire may have rubbed the tank.  It is really hard to be
       sure.  The MT-21 is very warn, also.
       It's a wounder about!
       I did not mention above the bike has the 1" Kouba Link.
       Sure would like to find someone that has run the 120/100 tire.
       I think the Bridgestone are the best all around tire for dual
       sporting.

       Bringing this topic back up.. need quick help as I am trying to
       plan a quick trail ride back down at Hatfield McCoy on July 19th
       weekend.......
       MT21 stock is 140/80-18 and worn too much for any dirt riding.
       I have a brand new Kenda Trakmaster II from my old bike that
       never got installed - but it's 120/100.
       What has been the consensus about the 120/100-18 tire fitting on
       the 690?

       I ran the ED78 120/100x18 in Idaho weekend before last.  It does
       not appear to have hit, but we were not on rough roads.  It
       rained just before we got back, so any marke may have been wiped
       out.
       So far, so good.

       Best tire combo IMO, and many others for dual sports are the
       Pirelli MT-21 front and the Dunlop D606 rear.  The 606 on the
       front can wash out, but the wear of the MT-21 rear is horrible
       and the 606 does much better on the rear....nice bite and better
       mileage.   I have the D606 on the way for me to put on down in
       New Mexico after I assume I will have almost no tire left after
       1500 miles on the OEM MT-21.   I have heard NUMEROUS accounts of
       guys running the 130/90 18 D606 on the KTM 690 with no issues.
       10 mm higher (1 centimeter) shouldn't hit anything.  It is also
       'slightly' narrower by the 10 mm so theoretically it will dive
       into turns quicker/easier.  (miniscule)

       Left - 120/100 - Kenda Trak Master II - DOT tire  (I loved this
       tire on prior DRZ400)
       Center is the stock 140/80 Pirelli MT-21 DOT tire (850-900
       miles)
       Right is Michelin M12  140/80 (stock size)   NOT DOT  Do not
       plan on riding this on the road - it's super slippery.  My plan
       is to re-install the worn MT-21 after the trails next weekend.
       Plenty of tread for road use.

       The Mich M12 is a tough tire...used to run them on a 300 exc 2
       stroke. I put one on the 690 to try it and had just got it run
       in when I ripped the valve out of the tube (no rim lock on the
       rear tire)! Served me right. I didn't have a spare tube with me
       that day and a patch wasn't going to fix it.
       So I rode it home completely flat, 45 miles on the tar, going
       maybe 30 miles per hour. Was a bloody awful ride but the tire
       stayed in one piece and could probably be remounted fine. Tough
       bit of rubber for sure.

       I am lurking over her e from the 950/990 Adventure forum.  I see
       you guys are discussing full knobbies in this thread.  But I am
       wondering what experience has been(on 690s) with the more street
       oriented dual sport tires which are popular on the bigger
       KTMs--Heidenau, Mitas, Mefo?  And on a different not, how about
       a Pirelli MT 43 trials for the rear?  I know from experience
       they work very well in the dirt and wear like iron on the
       street.
       My apologies just found the other forum and dual sport tire
       thread.  I'll take it over there.
