       Motorcycle Camping Pad
By: Rusty Shovel Date: April 22, 2014, 11:09 am

       Hey all,
DRblackbird emailed me today asking what camping pad I recommend
for adventure riding. I have a Nemo Cosmo XL pad because I like
sleeping comfortably and it packs really small.

At $170, it's not cheap, but nothing's worse than a crappy
night's sleep after a day of riding. I opted against the
insulated version because it's bulkier, more expensive ($230),
and I never plan to camp in temps much below freezing anyway.
I've camped down to 25 degrees and I've been cozy in my down
bag. Also, it has a foot pump cleverly integrated into the pad.
       It inflates very quickly.
Here's a video DrBlackbird shared with me:

       Any other suggestions?

I use a Big Agnes mummy pad. It is 2 inches thick but packs down
to the size of a nalgene bottle. It is about $60 at Campmor:

The downside is it takes a while to inflate, so I solved that
problem with a Big Agnes pumphouse inflator. The pumphouse can
also be used as a pillow and a campshower:

I use a Klymit Static V that I got on eBay for $45 2 years ago.
Awesome pad that is less then 19 ounces & packs down to the size
of a 1 liter bottle of pop. Probably less actually. I had used a
styro roll before this & it was like upgrading to a feather
mattress. Very comfortable. Only 1.5" thick but I never touch
ground. It fits inside most sleeping bags so you don't roll off
it. I have an Ozark Trail down sleeping bag from Walmart & love
it. I think it was $60. Seriously, its 1lb. 9 oz. & packs down
like a 2 liter bottle of pop only shorter. I have used it in
temps as low as 39F with most nights around 45F. I felt any if
it was any colder it would have sucked but as long as it was
zipped up tight around me I was warm. I blew all my money on
this dam bike so I gotta cut corners.. LOL! So goin cheap means
I can still go & thats what I do. Pretty sure I gotta start a
"Poor 690 owner's" thread So you guys with a bit "o" cash dont
think I'm rippin on you! Im not, just livin within my means.
