       Attachments No More!
By: Rusty Shovel Date: March 29, 2014, 12:18 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hey all,
I just got a nastygram from createaforum.com; we're using too
       much space for attachments.
So I've set the forum to cease allowing attachments to posts.
Instead, follow the steps to insert your awesome photos:
       1. Upload your pics to an online photo storage site (such as
       Picasa, Flickr, Photobucket, or Facebook).
       2. Make sure you set your preferences on whatever site you
choose to allow anyone to view your photos (this setting is
usually hidden under some tab titled "privacy" or "sharing",
       then...
       2. Select the photo you want to show everyone, then RIGHT click
the photo itself. A list of options should come up, select
       "Copy Image Address."
       3. Go back to your post, figure where you want your picture to
be within your message and put the cursor there. Then paste the
image address into your message. It should look like this:
  HTML https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VrvDeN2-AZ8/UvU8hzkYeGI/AAAAAAAAAto/ALq6G5kE_jI/w1151-h863-no/DSCN5860.JPG<br
/> (only, in your draft post, it won't be highlighted).
       You're NOT done.
       4. Select (highlight) the entire address you just pasted into
your message. Then press the "Mona Lisa" button in the task bar
(it's the one below the capital B). Now it should look like
       this:
       (img)
  HTML https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VrvDeN2-AZ8/UvU8hzkYeGI/AAAAAAAAAto/ALq6G5kE_jI/w1151-h863-no/DSCN5860.JPG(/img)<br
/> -- This is a little different, it will be enclosed in bracket
       s
rather than parentheses. Also, I added bolding for emphasis.
       5. Now click preview and see if you can see your photo. If you
can, post your message and let us bask in it's glory!
TIP: If you want to include several photos in your message, it
helps to have two tabs open. The first tab will have your
message, the other tab will be open to your
Facebook/Picasa/Flickr/Photobucket page. That way, you can
click back and forth between them.
Another TIP: Using a site like Facebook is easy, but it doesn't
offer the option to upload full resolution photos (which are
       larger and more awesome).

I get the idea, they want us to put in links to content, but not
store the content on the site. It makes you wonder if we are
going to use FB, maybe a 690 page should just be started there.

The problem with Facebook is the content becomes disorganized
very quickly. The purpose of this forum is to be a USEFUL
depository of knowledge. Without browse-able topics, Facebook
would be no better than a megathread.

It's not exactly links to images. For example I killed a deer
on my KLR. I was knocked out for an hour because my helmet
       looked like this:

Dang! Knocked out for an hour? That sucks. I'm glad you're
       still with us.

I already have one on FaceBook.... Facebook vs. forums...both
have their pluses and minuses. But no reason to not
       have/use/enjoy both....
Anyone interested....find me on Facebook...."dave Kubler " in
       Kalispell, Montana...

this is the group... it is 'closed'...which means you need
approval to join (from me)...and NO-ONE can see what you post
there (even if you link to it) if they are not members of the
group. So, family/friends/employers..etc...will NOT see your
posts. Unless they also join the group. (dont tell them about
it. ) I will screen member requests to keep only true 690
owners and soon to be owners in, and riff raff out....

       thanks,

       Hey Dave,
You're not the only who's had with posting a photo on the forum.
Like most things, it's not hard once you know how. It's even
pretty quick, once you get the hang of it.
       Here's what to do:
       1. Upload your pics to an online photo storage site (such as
       Picasa, Flickr, Photobucket, or Facebook).
       2. Make sure you set your preferences on whatever site you
choose to allow anyone to view your photos (this setting is
usually hidden under some tab titled "privacy" or "sharing",
       then...
       2. Select the photo you want to show everyone, then RIGHT click
the photo itself. A list of options should come up, select
       "Copy Image Address."
       3. Go back to your post, figure where you want your picture to
be within your message and put the cursor there. Then paste the
image address into your message. It should look like this:
  HTML https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VrvDeN2-AZ8/UvU8hzkYeGI/AAAAAAAAAto/ALq6G5kE_jI/w1151-h863-no/DSCN5860.JPG<br
/> (only, in your draft post, it won't be highlighted).
       You're NOT done.
       4. Select (highlight) the entire address you just pasted into
your message. Then press the "Mona Lisa" button in the task bar
(it's the one below the capital B). Now it should look like
       this:
       (img)
  HTML https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VrvDeN2-AZ8/UvU8hzkYeGI/AAAAAAAAAto/ALq6G5kE_jI/w1151-h863-no/DSCN5860.JPG(/img)<br
/> -- This is a little different, it will be enclosed in bracket
       s
rather than parentheses. Also, I added bolding for emphasis.
       5. Now click preview and see if you can see your photo. If you
can, post your message and let us bask in it's glory!
TIP: If you want to include several photos in your message, it
helps to have two tabs open. The first tab will have your
message, the other tab will be open to your
Facebook/Picasa/Flickr/Photobucket page. That way, you can
click back and forth between them.
Another TIP: Using a site like Facebook is easy, but it doesn't
offer the option to upload full resolution photos (which are
       larger and more awesome).
If this doesn't work for you, ask again in the posting pictures
thread and we'll troubleshoot your issue to the benefit others
       who likely share your issue.

Does this also work with Dropbox?
Can't get the image to display when I insert the link as IMG,
but for some reason it lets me put a link...

It works with photobucket, haven't had a problem with linking
from there and it's basically setup for this exact thing by
having the "Share this Photo" along the right hand side frame of
the page with links for email, direct, html, and img.
I'm currently in the Android/GDrive cloud world, so when I take
pics they backup to the Google photo service. I'll download the
file to my desktop, edit it for cropping and size, then upload
it to photobucket to get the link. Easy peasy, about a minute a
       photo maybe.
Forums in the late 90's started to host files when the forum
structure took over from BBS, then it seems most stopped hosting
pics over a decade ago, especially free forums, when services
like photobucket, filezilla and the like appeared to cut down on
bandwidth. This is a non-issue for me, I wouldn't expect someone
else to store anything of mine for free even it's a digital pic.
Great forum, btw, and here's a linked pic for a set of new
tires... oh, sorry... tyres, that I need to get some more miles
before I do the review. Hosted from photobucket as mentioned
       above...

Since I had already edited and uploaded the pic to PB, all I had
to do to post it was click the mouse key to have the IMG url
copied and press ctrl+v to paste.
